Not sure if this has already been mentioned, or relevant but he used to fly his Pitts Special it over the Solent from the LEC factory airfield in Bognor. The factory is long gone but the airfield is still there, down behind the golf course, though probably not for long as it's earmarked for development.

A small David Purley memory. He sat on the rear wheel of his F3 car in the Brands paddock. A friend and I tried to maintain a respectful distance, craning our necks to see what his mechanic was doing to the engine. "He's fitting a turbocharger," said Purley.
