Browsing my data files to check some infos about La Turbie hillclimb, I ran across the name of his Mercedes driver, von Dojmi. I've already seen this name in the Mercedes drivers list in Tragatsch's book (Das Grosse Sport und rennwagenbuch, in French Le dictionnaire marabout des voitures de sport et de compétition). He is listed in good company, just between the Count Max Arco-Zinneberg and the Dr Eugen Winter. The list is not in alphabetical order but is clearly chronological.

All I know about Rolf von Dojmi is that he drove a Mercedes racing car in the 5 to 8 litre class (surely a 7 litre model) in those 4 Mountain / Hill climb events:

25 August 1929, La Bernina (CH), 1st Racing car 8 L, time = 17m 16s 4 (maybe it's not him !),
23 March 1930, La Turbie (F), 1st Racing car 8 L, time = 4m 18s 2/5,
29 March 1930, Esterel (F), 1st Racing car 5 - 8 L, average speed =77.198 km/h,
11 May 1930, Zbraslav Jiloviste (CZ), DNF.

Do anybody know more about him ?

Marc

Although I cannot help much I do have a little additional information about Rolf von Dojmi. He came from Solln which is near to Munich, and I have gleaned the following from my records.

2 June 1929 Kesselberg-Rennen 3rd Racing car class
28 July 1929 Rochlitzer Bergrennen 1st 8000cc Racing car class
25 August 1929 Bernina Bergrennen 5th Racing car class

23 March 1930 Course de cote de La Turbie 3rd Racing car class
30 March 1930 Course de cote d'Esterel 3rd Racing car class
11 May 1930 Zbraslav-Jiloviste retired
18 May 1930 Luckendorfer Bergrennen 1st 8000cc Racing car class
15 June 1930 Kesselberg-Rennen 5th Racing car class

He then hopefully retired from racing rather than adding his name to the list of drivers who died at the wheel during this period.

A request of my own:- Do you have the results of the Austrian Eisenstadt-Stotzingerberg Rennens. I think the first was held in 1958. In the 1963 edition I believe Jochen Rindt finished 2nd in a Jaguar E-type.

Cheers John

More than expected !

Thank you and sorry John, but my era about Hillclimb and Mountainclimb events is before WW2 (1919-1939). I still have to post an answer to your p-m message. I've not forgotten...

John - Can you tell me more about the Rochlitzer Climb? Was it in Germany or Austria? And where is Rochlitz or could it have been Rochitz (w/o "l")

Hans

The result of the Rochlitzer event was taken from a Mercedes and Benz book published in the 1940s. There is an "l" in the title.
Whether this was the only race I do not know. The book only recorded their victories.
The location was near to Leipzig and the course was 2.37 km. Any use?

John - thanks for your very helpful information. To know the source is always very important. This climb at Rochlitz could have been a one off event and is rather interesting to me because I never heard about it before. To my knowledge, the 1929 magazines did not report about it.
