As Connie was definitely at the 8th August 1948 meeting at Strathpine (her first event, and the first woman to compete in Qld), that pretty much confirms where this and the Warburton photo were taken. Thanks everyone.

That's two of the 25 photos place & date - done.

Ray - can you confirm the Warburton was at Strathpine on this day and then at what event did it enter for Leyburn in 1949 ?.

The AMS report on the Strathpine 8/8/48 meeting confirms Connie being present as Tony describes, but although it does not prove anything, the report does not mention the Warburton special. So an entry list is needed to confirm that.

I am organising a Celebrity dinner in conjunction with the 2015 Historic Leyburn Sprints http://www.leyburnmotorsprints.com.au/ and this year is a tribute to Sir Jack Brabham. As part of this tribute we would love to get a few Brabham cars and we are willing to pay.

 

We have invited a number of celebrities including the Brabhams, Steve Padget and following is an email sent to those named in it.

 

The Leyburn sprints are held every year to commemorate the staging of the first Australian Grand Prix in Queensland at Leyburn in 1949. 2015 is the 20^th year of the Sprints and the event them is a Tribute to Sir Jack Brabham who competed at Leyburn and we intend to hold a dinner, the MC will be Will Hagon at Leyburn but if the logistics get to difficult due to very small size of the community we may have to hold it at Warwick or Toowoomba. We would like you Tim and Bragitta Schenken (confirmed subject to classes of dates) to attend as one of our celebrity guest who we hope will include some of the following, Fred Gibson (confirmed), Dick Johnson, Marcos Ambrose, Kevin Bartlett (confirmed), Colin Bond (confirmed), Vern Schuppan, John Harvey, Jim Bertram (confirmed), John Bowe, Jim Richards, Ross Stone (confirmed), Johnathan Webb, Shane Van Gisbergen, Vern Schuppan’s.

John French will be attending as usual and he will be having a drive. We are more than happy to provide you with a car to drive if you like but if you don’t want to that’s up to you. We will pay your travel, accommodation at Warwick, meals etc so it should be at no cost to yourself and if you want to stay longer just let us know.
