Stan's Studebaker in the background?
Is that, perhaps, Alexander Nicholas talking to him?

Dunno Ray - is Alexander Nicholas of the squillionaire family who had the Aspro rights in Australia?
On the basis that the car is Stans’s, rather than the bloke kitted up, it may be MkV/41/51 ex-Patterson/Hawkes
Stephen, one for you

Alexander Nicholas Davison...
Sorry to confuse you.

That would be Lex Davison then? You might have said so.

Yes, I might have...
But I thought Mark would have known. Anyway, here's the pic transferred to this page for easier reference:

Ha, LOL etc!
Ray.
You have over-rated my mental acuity, none of my close mates ever do that! Not Lex I don’t reckon, stance, build and height doesn’t quite fit I don’t think.

Stan's first Cooper appearance at Rob Roy was March 10, 1952...
And he wore No 12 on that day.

Are those the mirrors on the front suspension upper arms? I wonder if the scrutes noticed, but I suppose for a hillclimb the imperative was missing.

These were not unknown in the day...
I know I've seen other pics with them on suspension members. These are on the leaf springs, of course.

Graham Shortland had mirrors on the suspension of the Geneer Vee in 1971.

Blame a population size?
I'm sure if we had a larger population a quality book would by now have been written on Stan,Doug,Reg Hunt and others of that period .
For me one of the better areas of the Internet are the amount of photos that continue to appear of the above in there Maserati racecars ..
