Why did BRM start only in 1976 in one event (Brazilian GP)? Did they already ran out of mony after just one race?
I`m also looking for picture of that car. Any ideas?

By that point it was Stanley-BRM (Alfred Owen had died and the team was owned by Louis and presumably Jean Stanley) - no sponsor money any more (Motul had gone). They were still stuck with a '74 car, no money to speak of, a skeleton staff at Bourne patching up the old cars, and very little hope. The '76 effort was very much a placeholder - they didn't even turn up for the non-championship British races. The red, white and blue livery on the cars was very "New Avengers" ;)

Stanley announced that the team would be back for '77 with a new car, sponsors, drivers etc.

That was of course the P207. A car that didn't even fit the packing case for its intended race debut in Argentina and boiled its vital fluids away in Brazil. From there it got worse.;)

Would that be the car that's in Dave Mawer's workshop then?

I've been seeing it there for the past two years or more.

According to Anthony Pritchard's "Directory of Formula One Cars: 1966-1986" (Aston Publications Limited, UK, 1986), Louis Stanley stated that the reason why BRM entered the Brazilian GP was to maintain their unbroken record of having competed in every year of the Formula 1 World Championship since its inception in 1950.

Some years, I think "competed" was stretching things a little.

You'd've thought they'd've turned up to a slightly cheaper race to attend.

... to maintain their unbroken record of having competed in every year of the Formula 1 World Championship since its inception in 1950.

This would be every year except 1950, '52 and '53, I take it? :p

Crossing threads to Ron Howard's 'Rush', this is why I was so excited to see 'BRM mechanic - Jamie Sives' in the cast list. Full marks to the screenplay writer for finding a role for a 1976 BRM mechanic! I presume he'll be the one, prematurely grey, about to drop a toolbox on Big Lou's foot.
I suppose it could be a pre-1976 BRM mechanic, a flashback, Niki Lauda reminiscing about 1973 and the good times at Bourne....

F1 World Championship in 1952 and 1953? Schoolboy error, Mr Murray.

Fair point, but then I could argue that there was no such thing as the 'F1 World Championship' before 1981. Certainly BRM took no part in any race counting towards the World Drivers' Championship in those years.

And no BRMs in 1954 or 1955 either...
