Going through the results it is sad to see how many of these drivers have left us over the years. Men like Roy Klomfass, Nols Nieman, Guy Tunmer and Peter Haller. All died of "unnatural" causes, none of them in a racing car, though.

If anyone is interested, I can post the points tables for the 1976 and 1977 championships.

What did they die of? If their deaths were reported here I'm ashamed to say I have forgotten.

Roy Klomfass commited suicide. He was suffering ill health for some time, after falling from a ladder. At least this is what I know.

Guy Tunmer died after a motorcycle accident.

Nols Nieman (a farmer) died in a light aircraft accident.

Sorry,Peter Haller did die in a racing accident. If I recall, it was during a F. Atlantic race. Perhaps someone else know the details about this crash.

Does anyone perhaps know what happened to the brothers Domingo (Mike and Yunus) that competed in F. Atlantic and SA F1 races in the 1970's? These men were what they call non-whites. As everyone know multi-racial sport was somewhat of a taboo factor in South Africa in those days. Still, though, these two gentlemen were allowed to compete without any problems. They always remind me of the American NASCAR driver, Wendell Scott, who as a black man also made his mark in the sport during the 60's. Competing against the odds.

Points Table 1976 Atlantic Championship

1) Ian Scheckter 69
2) Roy Klomfass 44

Sorry Jimmy, I do not have the dates. Think Nieman died in the early 1980's and Klomfass in the late 1990's. This is very vague, though. If I can somehow find the exact dates, I shall post it here.

The Formula Atlantic research project has finally started to catch up with this thread.

The 1976 results are here, researched and collated by Chris Townsend with invaluable support from Ian Hebblethwaite of HRCR South Africa.

We'd appreciate any comments, additions, suggestions, corrections, etc.

Hi. In response to your enquiry. I had the oppurtunity to speak to Roger Taylor, who was Roy Klomfass's chief mechanic during 77-79. He told me that Roy did commit suicide after he fell off the back of a bakkie and scraped his face so badly that he lost all sense of smell. My name is Zaid Boomberg. I am the nephew of the Mike, Joe, Yunus and Allan Domingo. They are all still living in Johannesburg. My grandad(their dad) past on 14 october 2003. My mom is their sister. My son Azeem Boomberg is involved in motor racing and races the MAX Challenge series in karts. He also races for Peter Lanz Motorsport in the sports 2000 series. We are seriously looking for sponsors to race formula ford in the UK.

This is Len Booysen taken at Kyalami in 1976. Can anybody tell me the name of his mechanic (in the red T shirt)? I have been told that this english guy later joined the Shadow Formula 1 team. Any ideas?
