And no mention of the chicane, by the way.

Thanks for the translation Nexfast, much appreciated. It took a long time just to get a map of the Caserta track but we got there in the end & I guess we'll eventually get to the bottom of the mystery chicane !!

There is no mystery, Chris. If you stitch the fourth photo from the article together with the rest of it on the next page (obviously a spread in the original magazine), you'll see it simply shows Roy Pike spinning at one of the righthand corners of the triangle.

They didn't do chicanes in those days, certainly not in Italy... If you want to scare yourself, go to Google Street View and check out the San Piero a Sieve track which ran a one-off Formula 3 race in 1967. It made the Nürburgring look safe! :drunk:

Well spotted Rob.  Looking at it there appears to be a tear in the page to the right of Pikes wheel which I thought was a straw bale .

Will check out San Piero a Sieve when I get back from holiday in a couple of weeks, assuming we get through the Channel Tunnel at some point tomorrow :well:

Came across this plaque at the site of the accident whilst browsing streetview.

It's on the building on the corner of Via Domenico Mondo and Viale Enrico Mattei

Obviously with false birth dates.
13.4.1941 was the day Jürg Dubler (who was involved and injured in the unfortunate happenings but survived) was born. According to Motorsport Memorial Beat Fehr's birthday was 21 June 1943.
Also according to Motorsport Memorial Geki Russo was born on 23 October 1937 instead of 13.4.1939.

So it seems doubtful that the date given on the plaque for Tiger Perdomi (3.3.1939) is the right one.

How bizarre. I could understand 1 birthdate perhaps being wrong but 3 ..........
