The ferrari transporter is currently in Arizona. The company Mike Shoen used to be part owner of imported the truck in the early 70's. When Mike left the company the transporter stayed. It has never been restored. The pictures I posted were taken last week in my storage yard. I need to figure out the year the chassis was manufactured. If anyone can help identify the year, I would be most grateful.

We are selling the truck to a well known collector. He will do a first class job of restoring the transporter.

Check back on the link I posted. There are a few more pictures.

Thanks.

I understand that Don Orosco is restoring Reventlow's original 36 ft Fiat transporter for his three Scarabs. It seems to have had an eventful life...Owned by Carroll Shelby for the transportion of Daytona Cobras, then to John Wyer for GT40s and Mirages...last painted red with Ferrari stickers (it was a twin of contemporary Ferrari transporters.)

Don hopes to bring his Scarabs to the Goodwood Revival on it next year...in the meantime he is looking for half a split windshield and seal, door handles, radiator grill surround,Veglia instruments. Anyone help?

Hey, that's neat...

Not as neat as the Standard Vanguard-based transporter that Stan Brown started to build. It was modeled on the M-B rapid transporter used to take Moss' long wheelbase car to Monza in 1955. With some very clever adaptation, I must say.

there is a new book about racing transporters...as far as i know it is written in german.
renntransporter

macca
i'd be more than happy if the green would print out as you see it on the screen....unfortunately most printers (mine too : ) don't recognise the right shade of green...especially when it's a dark green....
the result: black
all brm cars will print out black and there is a password required if you want to change the pdf file in photoshop...i might contact the webmaster
still it is great fun building them...sometimes a bit tricky

edward
the cars are a bit cartoonish and the drivers and mechanics (and Enzo Ferrari!) all have balloon heads so its not quite easy to say what scale but it is somewhere between 1:43 and 1:32...

speaking of the renntransporter.....the new M-B/D-C Museum is coming along nicely....opening just when the FIFA Worldcup takes place in Germany? It is more than twice as big as the old one was.

and...

Does anyone know if the new museum is replacing the one at Fellbach?

I dont know, but I have read reference to its purchase by John Whitmore , he used it to transport modified mini coopers , when Peter Kenna was planning to make the model he was searching for photos , so presumably he had been unable to find it .

Rick, Brilliant to see the old Brighton pics. Also the one of Vince Woodman's truck brings back memories, and the shot, I think, of the immortal JVB in Bloody Mary is one for the archives.

Thanks

Mike Anthony Vanguard Transporter

For anyone able to secure a copy of the book, there is a good broadside shot photo of the Vanguard plus Lotus on page 10 of the 1959 tome by Michael Frostick and Louis Klementaski, "For Practice Only" which for obvious resaons I am reluctant to scan and post.

Book details;Title/authors as above
by The Bodley Head Ltd and the Stellar Press Ltd, Barnet

In the UK try your friendly local Library on a "special search", now up to 4 quid where I live, but they came up trumps with Mike Tice's "Swings and roundabouts" 1900 whenever, as well as the 1964 Boddy edited Jean Gregoire book from the early fifties, "Best wheel forward" . I was amazed at their search abilities within 3 and 6 weeks of request.

On another Anthony/Vanguard note, I have come across another model maker, in Sussex, Trevor Wright, who does his version of the Vanguard in 1:43, kit or made up. I am about to order one so I will be able to report back. The review of his products last year in Octane seemed good.

His list shows that he does a very wide range of cars, a separate range of F1/F2 cars incl such things as the Trossi Monaco, Gordini T32, P99 Ferguson, Cisitalia et alia. plus a whole range of other sports and racing cars, list is too long to be specific.

Usual disclaimers etc.

Roger Lund.

PS Does anyone know Jackie Oliver? We should have a picture of his Ford Thames transporter up here. It is the same model as Bill Friend's, posted several above, but with a third axle tagged onto the rear, and "Red Rooster" painted on the doors, when he raced his Lotus 26R.

Does anyone else recall Jackie Oliver's Ford Thames 300C flatbed transporter on which he used to carry his Elan 26R in 1964? It was a rich maroon colour, like his car, and had the legend Red Rooster on the doors, possibly after a song by an up and coming but now well known period beat combo.

To fit the car on the back it had a lengthened chassis with a third, trailing axle tagged on the back. Looked impressive to me as a callow youth at Rufforth in those rose-tinted-glasses days.

I suspect the rig was a bit sluggish with only the 1508cc Consul engine in plus the three speed box.

At about this time I was stock car racing with a fried of mine, Ginger Payne who had built a similar transporter ,but sluggish it was not as a 6 cylinder Zodiac engine fitted place of the 4 quite easily and I belive Jackie Olivers was the same.

Mike Anthony's Vanguard transporter went on to be the works transporter at Ogle. It carried lots of those lovely little Ogle SX1000 Minis around. Mike had one for years, apparently....

Twinny has prompted me to add this one to the transporters thread: Jock Russell's Lotus 70 and David Prophet's wagon at Oulton, 1970.

And one of the ex-Ecurie Ecosse Commer, when owned by Neil Corner, Oulton '73

- on balance, after some deliberation, I think I'd rather have the 250F.

David Kennedy's famous black bus. David and his Crossle 30F Formula Ford car lived in this bus for the entire 1976 UK season. A successful year, winning both the RAC and Townsend Thoresen Championships and 6th place in the Festival final.
