Yes when you "reply" to it, it is nicely laid out in the columns you expected!
Most of us would have the same trouble with formatting!

Nice to get sympathy, even if I still haven't a clue what I did wrong. It's that pesky little pixel or imp or w.h.y. they reckon lives in the magic laptop box. Bring back the witchhunters.

You're not doing anything wrong, Nicanary, it's just the way the forum software works. As far as I know, the only way round it is to put anything you want to stay formatted into a Codebox (click on 'Insert Special Item' in the reply box, then 'Insert CODEBOX'). However, this only partially works, and I've had incredibly frustrating experiences in the past trying to get my formatting to stay as I wanted it. :well:

I like it, plenty of good places to get photographs from if you are signed on media but importantly there will be
lots of good vantage points for the spectators. It's not quite finished yet, just one of the new spectator banks is open
but once the grass has grown and the new areas are open and full of people, it will look great.
An album from the BARC meeting last Sunday:
http://www.facebook....mp;l=99ea9a45ab

The previous week there was a Classic Sports Car Club meeting:
http://www.facebook....mp;l=5f8eafadfe

I was at Snetterton on Sunday for the British GT championship.

It was my first visit since the improvements and I was very impressed with the 300 layout. Obviously all the viewing banks are now established grassed areas with plenty of people taking advantage of the panoramic views. You can no longer view at bombhole but access everywhere else is excellent.

A particularly nice aspect of Snetterton is the complete lack of debris fencing and gravel traps with the grass run offs blending nicely with the surrounding farmland. On a warm sunny day like we enjoyed last Sunday there can be few nicer racing circuits to spectate at in the UK.

I can't wait to see the VSCC meeting there later this summer.

The car was Simplicity, still active with Barry Clarke. There are several photos on the web, but not from Snetterton. I am away from home and will look when I get back.

One of my overriding memories of Snetterton in the 1980's is that I rarely, if ever, paid to go in. And I know I wasn't the only one! When you came off the A11, you drove up the very poor concrete road towards the kiosk. As you paid per person, I was always hidden in the boot. My brother would pay his for his ticket and would drive off, over the bridge and I would get out once somewhere in the infield once we had stopped. Did that for years and years!

I'd just missed out on the 'long circuit' era (would of loved to seen that) and Snetterton was very clubbie in the 1980's, with sparse facilities and investment. However it had great racing, the Willhire 24 hours and arguably the best and most challenging bend in the country - Russell (Ruined in the 1990's). If you got that right, you got extra speed up the straight. If you got it wrong, you ended up in the tyres. However, if you thought you got in right, you would lose the back end and spin or worse - barrel roll up the straight instead!

It was the coldest place on earth. No matter how warm it was elsewhere, Snetterton could be as cold as hell. Haven't been there since the '300' revamp, but I'm pleased it's still in operation as it nearly got sold in the late 1980's. I'll have to have a dig around to find some photos from the era.

Good stuff, hogstar. For my first visit, aged about 10, my dad had free tickets courtesy of Foulger Transport - we queued up with alllthe other traffic only for my dad to be advised that there would be a car-parking charge. Curmudgeon was his middle name, a man tighter than a duck's wotsit. He performed what must have been a 20-point turn to go back against the traffic flow, with my mother muttering about his obstinacy. All I cared about was getting in.

He left the car in Foulger's yard, and we walked in. And yes, it was freezing. It's often been quoted, but it was once said that there were only 2 trees between Snetterton and Siberia, and one of those had fallen down. You couldn't keep me away from the place as a teenager, though, come rain or shine.

From the back of the filing cabinet. Snetterton definitely, maybe early 70's and a RECC meeting, but I've no idea who!

Bump, for no good reason beyond that it is a super thread with some wonderful photographs and history, - thank you, Andrew and Richard- so newcomers might find it useful. I had been looking for a Snett shot of a flooded corner to highlight the sort drainage problems which beset the Bombhole, see Snett Bombhole thread.

At the beginning of 1965 it was announced that the Autosport final at Snetterton in September would be a 24 hour race. In the end it was run in two 2 hour parts with Tony Sargeant running out the winner of the event. Does anyone know why the originally proposed 24 hour format was dropped? I can guess at various reasons why in the end it was not deemed practical but never never read any official explanation. The Autosport report of the race makes no reference to the change in plans.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew my Dad, Jim Colbrook?? He used to race his mini in the late 60s and early 70s.

I was wondering if anyone had any old photos of him??

Looking through this forum Pete Stenning seems to know him, I'm trying to track him down. does anyone know either of them?

Any information would be much appreciated.

Thank you!!

Rooting through my filing cabinet I came across an envelope of black and white paddock photos. I presume they were taken in the 1970’s at a Romford Enthusiasts meeting.

Mine is watching Gerry Marshall in Ronnie Farmers yellow FIA TVR Griffith in qualifying for the end of season HSCC 2 driver race in the early 90's, I was a 16 year old lad standing next to the chicane watching as he came over the brow, sideways, twitching this way and that, everytime he came round I was convinced he wasn't going to make it, everytime he did... We saw a lot of Ronnie that year in the FIA rounds and that car was a beast, I am pretty sure GM had never driven it before the meeting, he was a lot quicker than anybody else and they won by a mile!

My abiding memory is of the kindness of Gerry Marshall who, after the American driver Greg Hodges crashed at the esses; loosing two of his fingers; looked after our girlfriends, taking them off to the bar, buying them stiff brandies, while we dealt with the aftermath - Great driver, even greater man.

Instead of starting a new thread this seems the best place for this.  I have some photos that I have been trying to ID. The negatives are marked 1959 Brands Hatch which is clearly wrong since they were all taken at Snetterton in the early 1960's  and all at the same meeting. They seem to have been taken at the Esses.   I want to find out which meeting this was and then try to ID the drivers, I have some of them but not having a programme is a problem   I have narrowed this down to 1961 although I cannot be sure of this so any help would be appreciated.

Here are some of the photos which should give a clue to the entries for anyone who has a programme.  They should be of interest on this thread anyway.

1)  Formula Juniors or is this a Libre race - The lead car appears to be one of the Chequered Flag Gemini's and could be Graham Warner who (according to his book) only competed in one single seater race in 1961 in place of Mike Parkes at Snetterton in which case this would be the 18 June meeting where he also raced his Elite. Seems to be #10 and he raced without a peaked helmet so is likely but a copy of the entry list would confirm this

img113.jpg

2)   Chequered Flag Gemini and I am fairly certain it is Bill Moss who raced the second team car at that time.  Appears to be wearing  #11.

img110.jpg

3) Mike Spence , Emeryson  (#44)

img007.jpg

4)   #45 Elva 200 FJ of David Austin (?)

img011.jpg

5)  # 50 - obviously a cooper but who is it ?

img004.jpg

6)  Lola Mk2 #26.

img008.jpg

7)  - Taken at the same meeting, One of the Triumph TR4S team that raced at Le Mans in 1960 & 1961. This one '926HP' finished 9th at the 1961 event (Peter Bolton/Keith Ballisat) which was held on 10/11th June.   Would it have raced one week later at Snetterton or is my 18 June theory incorrect and any ideas on the driver ?

7) img015.jpg

8)  More Triumph's  #140 is leading

img005.jpg

9)   A Turner with faired-in headlights  - Warwick Banks ?

 img010.jpg

That's probably enough otherwise taking up too much space.

Some of the other photos show Lotus 20 FJ's  # 9   # 42  & # 54.  Also John Sutton's Marcos GT '8853JH'  #83 I think,  another Turner # 61 and also the Lotus Elites 'LOV 1 & 'DADIO' of Graham Warner & Les Leston with # 86 & #87.

If anyone can pin down the meeting and has the entry lists it would be really helpful. Thanks

Chris

Chris, I don't have a programme but your June 18th 1961 suggestion tallies with the results listed on Stefan's F2 Register. That being the case, Formula Junior #50 is Dickie Attwood's MRP Cooper, and #26 Lola is Jeremy Bates' Cambridge Racing car.

The racingsportscars.com site shows that three sports car races supported the Eastern Counties '100' Formula Junior race. There were two races for the Autosport GT championship, split at 1300cc, and a one marque race for Triumph sports cars.

Unfortunately the information for these three races is a little scant with no race numbers included so positive identification is difficult. However the number 80 Turner pictured is almost certainly the Tatty Turner, entered by Gordon Unsworth's Motorway Sales team and driven by Pat Fergusson. In this race, the up to 1300cc Autosport race, the Turner split the Elites of Warner and Leston and went on to win the 1300cc class of that year's Autosport championship.

Thanks for that.  Checking some other photos of Pat Fergusson and his Turner it does seem to match with the hood markings and the headlights covered over.   I have discovered that Turner #61 is George Morgan's car '776NPF'.

Just need to find the driver of the Triumphs in photo 7 & 8 now.

Does anyone by any chance have the race programme of the Guards International Car Races at Snetterton on 27 March, 1970?

Edit: nevermind, I found it on eBay.
