Sam Newman, the ex footballer and prat from the Footbrawl Show spent a few years in motorsport. H e drove mostly Sports Cars but did get a Supercar ride. While no great shakes at least he knew it and seldom disgraced himself. Actually he was a lot better than most of the hire a Ferrari rich boys that were around for a while.

There has ben a couple of AFL players drive Speedway street stocks, one did it under an assumed name. He wasn't great but no mug either and he enjoyed himself.

Interesting. Hitachi were sponsoring Liverpool FC, Clemence's team at the time. And Hitachi were sponsoring a Formula Atlantic series. It all makes sense.

Not that I'm any way biased at all, but how pleasing it is to see that the World's Greatest Football Team ;) are now involved in Formula 1 - http://www.readingfc...sia-886609.aspx

I can't believe that no one has mentioned the now defunct Superleague Formula racing series which I think stopped the other year. The cars were painted in team colours and I remember the football type commentary= 'SPURS HAVE SPUN OFF!' - That sort of stuff,it was a football race. I found it all very unsettling, how could it appeal to both types of fans? It was on Setanta channel to start with I think.

I still have an unidentified autograph from this meeting in my program. It still drives me mad !! Perhaps I'll scan it and post it here one day..

Anyway, Steve Parish (Crystal Palace FC Chairman) was at Brands Hatch driving a Porsche some time over the last year or so.

Polish goalkeeper, Jerzy Dudek, has been competing in one-make series in Poland. Not sure if he's any good.

And so did River Plate, Racing Club, Independiente and other big clubs of argentinian football. At the first race of that year, even was Julio Grondona, former FIFA vicepresident and Argentinian Football Association (AFA) leader.

A little clue, David, watch the thread list and when this one doesn't appear on page 1 any more, chances are it will quietly disappear.

In the meantime - how about a suggestion -

DON'T OPEN THE DAMN THING! ;)

Ten years on, I still think this is a ridiculous thread :-(

Don't forget the West Ham car.....................looks very stylish, has the occasional flash of brilliance, but always disappoints!

Mainly because the Chelsea team nicks their pit crew and drivers: don't they Mr Boor !?! :

...at a huge price, of course, Chris. Enabling the West Ham car to be fitted with many new features, none of which seem to improve its on-track performance! ;)

Could not agree more with you BB after todays pathetic performance even though we won. That Pardew supercharger seriously needs sorting out !!

The only time I have seen teams competing as teams is in banger racing with the likes of the 'Catford Goodies' fielding a team of six matt black cars against the 'F-Troop' from Walthamstow with six claret and blue cars. The winner being the last car still running.

Thankfully, I can't think of any racing cars in claret and blue, so we are spared a West Ham car.

With apologies to David Beard with whom I have some sympathy, one can only presume Mr Shaun Rainford once lurked here :-
