Hello,

Throughout my research, I realized that it was very difficult to find the race numbers of the 1954 Pescara GP.

Would it be possible, with all the knowledge of each one, to complete this list gradually ?

Here are the drivers registered :

Luigi Musso Maserati 250F
Stirling Moss Maserati 250F
Harry Schell Maserati 250F
Bira Maserati 250F
Sergio Mantovani Maserati 250F
Roberto Mieres Maserati 250F
Jorge Daponte Maserati A6GCM
Umberto Maglioli Ferrari 553
Robert Manzon Ferrari 625
Louis Rosier Ferrari 500
Jacques Swaters Ferrari 500
Berardo Taraschi Ferrari 166
Clemar Bucci Gordini T16
Jean Behra Gordini T16
Andre Guelfi Gordini T16

Here is also a picture taken at the start, which perhaps will help some :

No, he means the 1954 event. I think I have a bit on this event at home. I will sort around for it once I get home, unless someone beats me to it.

Curiously the Sheldon 'bible' has chassis numbers for all 13 arrivals but no race nos. As a whole book has just been published just on the 1957 race, maybe someone could do some work on the others?

At the IMRRC, there are several pictures taken during this event in the archives. I have forgotten the exact group the pictures are located within, but the pictures are among those items from one of the wire services, AP perhaps, that were donated to the Center.

As David might also warn you, be cautious as to the chassis numbers allocated to the 250F's at Pescara....

I only have the following:

#2 – Clemar Bucci – Gordini T16 (Equipe Gordini)
...
#8 – Luigi Musso – Maserati 250F (Officine Alfieri Maserati)
...
#14 – Berardo Taraschi – Ferrari 166/F2 (private entry)
#16 – Jean Behra – Gordini T16 (Equipe Gordini)
#18 – 'B Bira' – Maserati 250F (private entry)
...
#24 – Harry Schell – Maserti A6GCM (private entry)

This is my reconstruction based on some pictures taken at this event and statistics from Paul Sheldon's 'A Record of Grand Prix and Voiturette Racing' Vol. 6 (1954-1959). Apparently there were only even numbers given to the entrants, probably to avoid #13 or #17 or another one that somebody didn't like...

Schell obviously was driving the A6GCM F2 chassis equipped with 2500cc engine, not the 'genuine' 250F. (I can confirm this as I have him photographed at the finish of the race). It was an 'interim' model supplied to some private customers in early 1954 until their new 250Fs would be built. In fact there was only one F2 car in the field - Taraschi's Ferrari 166 bought him shortly before from Scuderia Marzotto, all others were either true F1 chassis or F2s with 2S engines.

Hope this will be of help.

Thank you very much, .ru ; it is a very good beginning.

The race numbers are exclusively even numbers, as it was often the case in Italy at this period.

The weak answers on this thread, confirm as I had noticed, that it is very difficult to find race numbers of the Pescara GPs, except for the '57 world championship round.

Don, you said that you were going to seek in your files, you have found nothing ?
