I thought there was a thread about him... it probably mentioned his date of death. Try search...

Norinder died in 1978 due to a cancer illness.

Please tell me what type of illness Norinder suffered from. People I have talked to, and who knew him, have told me that he committed suicide in his Rolls-Royce outside of Monte Carlo.

born 19 May 1934 in Engelbrekt

Engelbrekt is not a place, but the name of the parish or church.

This was written in a period magazine at the time. Just assumed it was facts.

Possibly he was suffering from and dying of cancer, and he decided to cheat the Grim Reaper?

Could be so, even if I never heard that explination before.
BTW the Engelbrekt parish is lying in central Stockholm. So place of birth should be Stockholm.

Yes, I think I told it before...

Gary Campbell was a very generous man, and with a very successful VW and Mercedes-Benz dealership behind him he could afford to be so.

When the F5000 guys arrived for the Tasman Cup series (or the Australian Grand Prix when at Warwick Farm) each year, Gary would provide workshop space for some virtually on the doorstep of Warwick Farm. And he would have one or two stay at his home, where he and Gloria would treat them as very welcome guests.

Norinder took it a step too far, however, and tried to rape Gloria. And let me tell you, Gloria was in no way a woman who would give signals that might be misconstrued as more welcoming than they planned to be.

It was a sad day when the world lost Gary Campbell...

Wow!!

Did Gary Campbell do some F5000 racing?

I have a distant recollection of a T300 Lola.

Another illusion shattered. I know that Norinder had a reputation as someone who both lived and played hard, but that...... too much.

That's right, a T300... then he had a T330, but he crashed it after aquaplaning on the Western Crossing at Warwick Farm in practice and hurt his ankle if I remember rightly.

That was the end of his racing.

At that time he was still, I think, helping support Larry Perkins in England. About the highlight of his F5000 endeavours was to grab third spot on the grid at the Oran Park Gold Star race, but I also think he found later in the season that there was a tear in the monocoque that had been gradually causing the T300 to get worse each meeting. It had been Gardner's ('The Threat') car, IIRC.

The high point of his racing career was, surely, his lap record for 2000cc cars at Warwick Farm when he had the Waggott engine in his much updated Elfin 600.

Yeah, Gary thought so too... by the way, I've edited my earlier post, I erroneously spelled his name with a second 'r' and shouldn't have.

That incident burned him right up. I think he came close to quitting racing over Norinder's impropriety, actually. He was so angry!

His parties were the stuff of legend & his beds needed a ladder to climb into! He dumped & donated his girlfriend Britt pre-race to an unwilling and ungrateful Brian Redman (a deal brokered by Sid Taylor where she got Brian's spare bed). Brian was horrified to discover that Britt was bald as a coot......... :rotfl:

I remember his visit here during the Tasman Series was marked by many colourful escapades at the after race functions ,from memory he said exactly what he thought usually with some very colourful language

Didn't Norinder start in the most F3 races? Thought I read that somewhere. Seems like an attention-freak who demonstrated reprehensible conduct in the aforementioned incident.

You couldn't really miss the guy; I saw him at the very first F5000 meeting at Oulton Park in 1969 in the Sports Cars Switzerland Lola T142 and for all the world he appeared to be on it rather than in it, such was his size! I never saw him in an F3 car, but how he managed to get in one I cannot begin to imagine!

Norinder's first race was with an MG in 1954. He raced a lot of different cars through the years, but never F3. He did race a Scuderia Serenissima Lotus 22 i FJunior in '62 though. He inherited a fortune as a teenager and could buy the cars that he wanted to have fun with, but became quite a good driver ... when he was in the mood.

He teamed up with Jo Bonnier in '57-58 and tried Jo's F1 Maseratis several times, but never got to race one. He raced a F1 car once , Kanonloppet at Karlskoga in 1961 in de Beaufort's Porsche.

I met Ulf in Karlskoga when helping out my late brother Mike "Ginger" who worked for Richard Brostrom who was married to Ulf's sister Pyran who I also knew. Ulf was a giant of a man and lots of fun. He competed with Richard Brostrom is a 1967 Porsche 911S in the KAK Rally in 1968. Also his Lola T70 at Sebring and F5000 races.

He ran in the 1970 Tasman Series in a Lola T190 Chev.

He was completely out of his depth IMHO

He started all seven races, only podium was 3rd at final round at Sandown.

There were only 10 finishers from 19 starters, and 5 of finishers were 1600cc cars. He was 2 laps behind the winner Niel Allen

Never heard of Ulf Norinder, found out some more on Swedish Wiki and a blog from where he was born, Kilafors in the mid-part of Sweden.

His father owned a considerable estate with enormous forests and was involved in local industry, he died in a plane crash when Ulf was six (1940)

He bought 250 GTO (3445) and took part in the Targa in '64 together with Picko Troberg. https://www.pinteres...55508258426328/

Seems it was involved in a much publicised crash during the GTO 50th anniversary event in France in 2012. All photos of the wreck have since disappeared....

The restoration of it by Classiche have been well covered however, like here.

More info here which will make sense with "Google Translate" or similar. How he came to be a Norinder and his mother's connection to "Ahlgrens Bilar" etc.
