I understand that Ronnie Adams - winner with Frank Biggar of the 1956 Monte Carlo Rally in, of all things, a Jaguar Mark VII saloon - has died...

I heard the news today from Derek Johnston, who was the third member of the Monte-winning crew. Ronnie was 88.
Shortly after Christmas his nephew brought him to Kirkistown for a couple of hours to give him a drive in a Porsche 911 Turbo. Ronnie had some difficulty getting aboard, but once behind the wheel drove it smoothly, and very rapidly !
He did, in fact, compete in sprints until about 10 years ago, first in an MGA and latterly in a Daimler SP250 with which he had a heavy shunt during the Manx classic - an accident which persuaded him to retire. Not bad going for a man in his late seventies.......
One more true character gone I'm afraid.

Ronnie wrote a book about his rally and race exploits a few years back. I'm not at home at the moment but the title is either "From Craigantlet to ?" or "From ? to Craigantlet"!

He was at the Stormont retro event a few years ago with the Monte (I think) Jaguar and I bought a copy from him there.
