Hello again!

Correct answers for Monaco:

Qualifying duels: Outcome Worth (pts)

1	Ferrari – Williams X (62 %) 1.38

2	McLaren – Renault 2 (85 %) 1.15

3	BAR – Sauber 1 (90 %) 1.10

4	Jaguar – Toyota X (82 %) 1.18

5	Jordan – Minardi 1 (79 %) 1.21

6	Renault – BAR X (90 %) 1.10

Total for qualifying: 7.31

Race duels:

7	Ferrari – Williams 1 (56 %) 1.44

8	McLaren – Renault 2 (74 %) 1.26

9	BAR – Sauber 1 (72 %) 1.28

10	Jaguar – Toyota 2 (28 %) 1.72

11	Jordan – Minardi 1 (46 %) 1.54

12	Renault – BAR 1 (5 %) 1.95

Total for race: 9.18

Overall: 16.31

Comments:
Qualifying was pleasantly democratic this time, with every single duel producing the expected outcome (going by the majority guess - some of us little anarchists found this just a tad disappointing but never mind about that). The race, as we saw, was rather messy but even then, only the Renault – BAR battle produced a surprise ending. Although, when you think about it, it’s actually quite amazing that only two people trusted Renault to win that one.

Results:
Since the qualifying was apparently rather predictable this time, there were no less than 12 (!) players who managed the perfect, 6-correct result. This is a feat worthy of the prestigious Trulli Award which goes to, in alphabetical order: Apex, Aren, AussieF1, d_view7, dnbn, Jimmino, jk, Makarias, Nasty McBastard, pinin406, ron and wioyet.

Predicting the race outcomes proved a bit trickier and, as a result, none of the trulliesque qualifiers managed to reach the elusive perfect total result. Aren came oh so close, though, and only got the last duel wrong. ): Still, 11 correct is thus far the best individual result in this game. Ric Bol and d_view7 are the runners-up on the podium.

38	Costaz 2,31	2,72	5,03

39	The Kanisteri	3,38	0,00	3,38

The average score was 9.69 which would’ve been good enough for the 23rd place. The popular guess X21 X1X 121 XXX would’ve been worth 11.10 points and a joint 10th.

And off to the championship standings after round 6/18. I’ve taken the liberty of axing some of the folks that appear to have gone MIA and removed them from the championship standings. I’ll naturally resurrect them if they make a comeback. In a similar manner, and for simplicity, new players will only appear once they participate in more than one round. As a result, it’s now a top 40.

No changes in top 5, except that the gaps extend slightly. dnbn has been residing on the top spot since round 2 and continues to do so. Thumbs up for that! Biggest mover upwards is Aren who climbs no fewer than 13 places to 10th.

Congratulations, everyone, but Aren and dnbn in particular! Good job!

Apparently there’s a new race in about 6 days, so expect a new thread for round 7 guesses to show up soon. Bye for now!

As a result, it’s now a top 40.

A sound decision, which however left me in the 40th (i.e. last) position of the table... Ouch!

At least, it was a pretty nice way to break my backwards trend of the last races

Thanks for your work, kismet :)

Well, I can always use my godlike game host powers to resurrect the backmarkers if the pain gets unbearable.

Not sure how the race duel for Ferrari-Williams can be 1 when Micheal didn't finish the race and went out before Ralf retired. Shouldn't that be X?

Official race result is Barrichello 3rd, Montoya 4th, Ralf 10th, Micheal DNF. That looks like "X" to me, only 1 Ferrari infront of the 2 Williams cars, or am I mis-understanding the rules?

Anyway, not bad qualifying result for me but let down by my race predictions.

Who are you, Ron Dennis in disguise? You're not supposed to keep that close an eye on the rules and how I apply them.

Seriously, though, I just glanced through the rules and it turns out that you're indeed technically correct. Which, in a true FIA manner, doesn't prevent me from playing the spirit of the rules card here. And if that doesn't work, I still have the no speak proper english card up my sleeve. ;)

Anyway, the basic idea was/is that two DNFs cancel each other out, no matter when they happen during the race. In this case, it was supposed to mean that Ralf and Michael's results don't matter as neither finished the race, although Ralf was officially classified. However, I seem to have used the term "classification" in the rules and, therefore, the letter of the rules says Ralf matters (result: X) while the spirit says he doesn't (result: 1).

I'd like to go with the spirit of the rules as I think it makes more sense. But I'm open to persuasion, so if you have a really great argument in support of a different approach, let me know - I might just change my mind.

Thanks for the clarification kismet. I have admit not really going back and re-reading the rules. I was basing my "protest" on my impression of the rules. I am quite happy for the results to stand even though it penalises me. I know it is a pain to recalculate results after they have been published, and even more so in a week where there is another race.

Perhaps the rules should mention that the cars should actually be running or something.
