This will be the 80th thread I have started.

What I am looking for is some motorcycle art, racing motorcycles.

Nothing post 1970!

Sidecars are a must. Be it good hi res pics or just plain good art, post them here.

I bow in your general direction should you grant my request.

BTW, Geo Ham did some great pre and post war cycle race art, I'd love to see some 5 by 7 or better yet, 8 by 10 size prints. The web sites devoted to Geo are very greedy and don't give you the goods, Very Sad!! :(

Who was it who did the rather lurid covers for the old Castrol 'Achievements' in the 50's and 60's? They normally had one motorcycle picture amongst the four.

I've got a Geo Ham period large motorcycle litho, about 18" x 24" (framed it is about 36 x 24), but it's obviously too big to put on the scanner.

Here is a link to 7 pages of motorcycle prints..

It says they were contained in the Castrol Achievements booklets.

It's possible the artist was Gordon Horner. He seems to have been a notable motorsport artist of the 1950s.

Google for him.

Definitely Gordon Horner, Geoff. Another fantastically talented motor sport artist. I recognise them all from my copies of the Castrol "Achievements" booklets.

Sorry to dig up old thread  ,
Painting (1982) by Estonian artist Miljard Kilk-
Posted Image

Bikes are Estonian(then part of Soviet Union) made 125 cc Vihur Rotaxes.
Vihur is a small company in Tallinn Estonia, that made about 200 racing motorcycles(from 1973).They used Yamaha, Rotax, CZ, IZ and selfmade engines. Frames, magnesium wheels, brakes, tanks and fairings were Vihur´s own manufacture.

Number 6 on the painting is Estonian racer Lembit Teesalu. He was 23-times Soviet Union champion in roadracing. Won his first title in Junior 50 cc class on Jawa in 1962. Has raced in West too (on Vostok four?) and also lot in Eastern block.
Raced till 2006(that year won Estonian, Baltic and East European title in 250 cc class). Also raced in various formula classes and won few Soviet Union titles in those too.
Number 10 is also Estonian racer Tõnu Maro.
From CA writing on fairings you can tell that both were ridind for Soviet Army motosport club.

No need at all to be sorry - it's one of the benefits of having your own forum! That and beginning new topics, of course.

I do like the picture you've posted and also the one of Ray Amm, which looks to me to be depicting him during the 1954 IoM TT, but I'm probably wrong... :)

I visited a local gallery a few months ago which was displaying numerous paintings by a local artist called Colin Pope. All the paintings were of motorcycle racers from the 60s and 70s and were being sold buy auction. You just had to put your name and address on a piece of paper with what you are prepared to pay for it. I bought this stunny painting for £100.

2ft x 2 1/2ft, acrylic on canvas (I believe). I'm almost certain that all his paintings were taken from well known photos which appeared at the time in the motorcycle mags, and were of Read, Ivy, Hailwood, Fath, etc., my heroes at the time. I think he's planning on creating a website to better publicise his work.
