I'm reviving this thread because David gave a link to it in the "when did you start..." thread, are there any more TNFers who were there that weekend? I could start "It was spring 1971 and the exams at Leicester Polytechnic had just finished..."

When the F1 and F5000 cars came out for their warm up I was standing somewhere around by Becketts, I think. A few F1 cars went by and I then turned round to talk to someone whilst some F5000s wnt past and then... "what the hell was that?" I spun round to see a Matra shreiking past. Somehow life has never been the same.

I remember the turbine Lotus and deciding that the prominent noise coming from it was actually from the tyres.

I must admit to having forgotten that Graham Hill won this race. A dreadful ommision since he had been my hero since 1962 and I had driven home that night with a feeling of all being right with the world after that result.
