I'm about half way thru' reading Down the Hatch at the moment. I picked it up at Stoneleigh, second hand I must add, for £11. I saw a new version elsewhere for £35, and a pristine, vacuum sealed one for £75...

The latter was offered by one of the 'high class' book dealers. Its an OK read, but I'm not sure its worth that much. I must say I'm finding the text a bit different, not much detail on his cars/drives so far, plenty of info on his encounters with "young ladies", maybe a large pinch of salt is required here as someone mentioned earlier.

I will always remember him for drinking in the bar at Brands Hatch with Gerry Marshall and then going to race straight from the bar. I was only in my teens and thought that was really cool.
Why doesn't racing have these kind of drivers anymore, I suppose it isn't professional or poltically correct. I was bought up on a diet of 70's saloon and big banger racing.

Did he race one of Gerry Marshalls Vauxhall Magnums at one point !

Adrian

I now own this car - I drove it for the first time a couple of weeks ago and it was no surpise that it was fastidiously maintained and on the pace even though it hadnt been used for 18 months!

I will be out in it again this Monday for the Top Hat race at Donington

I take it you have looked at Gerald Swan's F3 site http://www.f3history.co.uk/ . There are a couple of pictures of TL in F3 Merlyns under the manufacturers section.

Tony Lanfranchi fans may be interested to know that while ferreting around for info on the Healey Silverstone chassis #D6 at Haynes International Motor Museum I found reference to the car being the one Tony drove on his debut in 1957 on this Healey Silverstone register.

Continuing the list of cars Tony drove started on this thread in 2004, I do not recall seeing any mention of the U2 Mk24B he shared with Will Hoy in Thundersports around 1985.
