I believe it was the above mentioned Richard Stolz who later had a serious accident at Lime Rock in the Lister. I'll see if I can retrieve the story. 

There was an early post about a possible fatal crash at Lime Rock involving a Lister Corvette. Stolz was seriously injured, but I do not believe it was fatal. His Lister, as noted in the previous post was Jaguar powered. I do not recall a fatal at Lime Rock Park involving a Lister Corvette.

in Lotuses.

I've never heard of a Lister-Buick before.  Presumably this was the aluminium V8 which would have been lighter than the Corvette engine.

Just received via Kirk Keyes, the Lotus 30 specialist, from contemporary Lime Rock race marshal Dave Winship - fascinating testimony throwing new light upon a very curious story - i.e. the 'unknown' driver fatally injured in a 1960s Lister accident at Lime Rock, the wreck then being 'dozed into landfill there...a story attested to in essence by none other than the late John Fitch.

 

"I was researching information on a racing accident at Limerock Park involving a Lister Chevy and found a 2004 discussion about the car by Doug Nye on the Autosport forum where he discussed the accident (incorrectly dating the incident to 1964-65) and he inquired about the driver of this car in its final race.   I would appreciate your forwarding this to Doug.  The race was in the fall of 1967 as I recall. I was a corner worker on green flag station on the outside (!) of the uphill of turn 5, facing oncoming traffic for the c modified race. I was a sophomore in college and I and 3-4classmates volunteered to work the race. It was the first of many SCCA/IMSA races we worked and for some of us, later raced.  The accident occurred on the first lap. The crowd of cars approached the bend at the bottom of the hill when the Lister drove off the outside of the track and road onto the earthen embankment finally nosing into the dirt which flipped the car nose over while in the air. The car landed in the middle of the track near the top of the hill upside down. A fire immediately ensued with the driver trapped inside. As I recall, we attempted to approach the car intending to use the extinguisher, but the extent of the fire prevented any meaningful action until the driver finally rolled out from under the wreckage.  The driver's name was John Muir, as I recall.  I believe I read that he died in the hospital a month or so later in something published by the chief steward, Malcolm _____?.   Doug indicated that the prop shaft sheared, initiating the fire. I do not think that was the case. The car appeared to be under power when it ran into the embankment and I do not recall any flames until the car struck the paving, but then it has been along time ago. Serendipity is a funny thing. The reason I thought about this event so many years later was an article in Wired online today about the construction of some commemorative Lister cars... Which led to finding the forum post by Doug and eventually your report. Hope this is of some value.  Dave Winship

Found the article on Dick Stolz. His accident was at Thompson, not Lime Rock.

This car was in entry list but never arrived. I don't believe he ever raced in Canada.Listers appearing at Canadian circuits would be rare, I see none listed after 1961 (opening of Mosport), and I don't recall any reference to them before.. Magee above reports a Lister in Western Canada which I was unaware of:

 

"In 1963 at Westwood track (near Vancouver BC) Bill Stephens ran his Kelly green Lister-Corvette (#BHL-124) for at least a season"

 

There were numerous American and Canadian specials mostly Chevy powered, the attitude being it was cheaper to build a car than import a relatively expensive one which in effect was an English special. with the same motor..

Does anyone know of a knobbly Lister which was located in Tucson in 1967-68? It was originally Jaguar powered and had been converted to Chevrolet power but at the time had no engine. It was sitting in the side yard of a home in Tucson and a friend was attempting to purchase it. The last I heard, a professor from the University of Arizona had acquired it. He owned an E-Type which had the D-Type engine from the Lister. He had also acquired my E-Type powered XK120 coupe and was attempting to purchase the XK120 engine from my friend to whom I had sold the 3.4 engine for potential use in the Lister.

 

I don't recall the owner's name but understood he was active in Southwest SCCA racing with some limited activity with the Chevrolet powered Lister.

 

I left Tucson in mid 1968 and don't know if the U of A professor was able to put all 3 cars together with correct engines (i.e. the Lister and it's original D-Type engine, the E-Type and engine from the XK120 and the 120 with it's original engine).

 

I've read what Lister knobbly info I can find and don't see any history which might relate to this car.

I  wonder can any one tell me what race this car, in the link, Lister BHL 17, was crashed badly ? I have a photo that I found on the net, I don't know where now     I'm sure it is this car, same colours & number, in the woods, with a tree up the nose. it's covered in extinguisher powder. don't know the outcome for the driver. it was driven by Graham Shaw around the time of this incident.

The report says that the car was 'relatively undamaged' but doesn't mention any damage to Graham Shaw, so I assume no news is good news.

Tim,  a late thanks for the information on that Shaw Lister, I knew that the one photo on Racing Sportscars, was from VIR, but  didn't think to look at the site !

According to a chassis log from some eight years ago this car, BHL-17, was at that time in Europe and owned by Dick Von Amersterdam.
