This seems to be the only photo I took at the Belgian GP, Zolder 1975

Not exactly prancing horses

And Monza 1972, before...

..and after. Cruddy camera, no telephoto, wouldn't take anything in motion

Thanks Keir - and 275. On the off chance I did send a few of my shots off to magazines when I got back from the Le Mans Classic - with some success. I got a double page spread of the Carrera 6 in Classic Cars and some others in 911&Porsche World and the Porsche Club magazine. It paid for my ferry trip - which was nice.

I've heard that motorsports photography is a very competitive and difficult field to survive in - I think I'd struggle to earn as much as I do in my current job - but if it helps pay for my hobby that's great :)

There's also the worry that once you start doing something for a living some of the fun goes out of it.

Still, it would be great to get a press pass - I shouldn't really have been in the pits during the race. I just made sure I kept out of everybodies way. I did get turfed out once though. Perhaps now I've been published I might qualify for a pass?

I wondered if anyone would ask! It's a Ginetta G12 with a special body designed and built by an American called Richard Petit. He worked at the Ford Design Centre in Dearborn and bought the G12 chassis while working in England for a time. He took it home and constructed the moulds and body to a very high standard along with his cousin, also a Ford employee. It was brought back to the UK by Trevor Needham (driving it here) who may have since made one or two more.

Hmmmm, only guessing here....but #8 looks like an Alfa....and eight was the number carried by Australian Brian Foley for many years...maybe he stepped across the ditch or sold one of his cars to a Kiwi??? :

I imagine that almost all of the British TNF posters in the track and paddock threads must have rubbed shoulders (literally) in their attempts to capture these shots. But I've not had the pleasure of meeting you TW.

What a superb thread!

As I am a young man and I only got some photographs from the qualifying session at Silverstone in 1992 and it is my first ever motorsport trip. Unfortunately I left my scanner at university but I will try my best to take the photographs with my digital camera.

EDIT>> Rats, I can't find it. I looked in my filing cabinet and no avail. I must have left them at university.

Ray, the first-lap shunt was on the approach - and entry into - Paddock, whereas the pic here seems to be at Druids.

Yes, it's at Druid's and definitely practice day as I'd given up going on race day by then.

As I have recently converted some of my old negatives from the Swedish Grands Prix to jpg format, I will post some pictures here. Because colours have faded I have some work to do to restore correct colour and contrast. Although it's sacrilege, I will start by posting some "artwork" derived from the originals.

The theme tonight is Emerson Fittipaldi, with pix from 1973, 1974 and 1976, respectively.

Welcome Nick,
I've read your 'Introduce Yourself' posting and I am looking forward to your contributions to this and other threads...

I haven't seen many photos of Palmer in the Williams 6 wheeler at Goodwood, so this was an excellent introduction by you
