Errm - just out of whacky motoring interest, you might find it diverting to take a look here...

...to view salvage of the car transporter which capsized and sank in the English Channel after a collision a couple of years ago...

So, don't buy a used Volvo if the seats are a tad damp?

Makes hauling a Lotus out of the harbour at Monaco look pretty straightforward...

This one upset my lovely bride more than the Volvo's as she works at the John Deere assembly plant here in town. She bleeds John Deere green.

It looks like they hired New York parking lot attendents to arrange the cars...

Are Alberto Ascari and Paul Hawkins in an elite club of two or did other cars and drivers go for a dip at Monaco?

I presume you took the pics, David, so can you explain what was going on here? Was the little white van at the start of the sequence originally on the flatbed lorry? And what salvaged the crane - did it actually go in the harbour?!

Twinny, These photos have been doing the rounds of the net for about two months. A crane truck was lifting a car out of the water and it fell in! They get a bigger crane truck to pick up the mess.
But this time the last photo has been photoshopped to make it look like the bigger crane has fallen in!

Nice series of photos here :)

That last picture looks like a fake though.

Ah... That'll teach me to skip parts of the sequence!

Yes, I can see the last one's been fiddled with now you mention it.

Where & when did this happen?

Seems like all those landbased Volvo's are actually Volvo-Penta wannabees... :rotfl:

You guys are smarter than I am

Twinny: I don't know where it took place; at first I thought Nova Scotia or Newfoundland but then i thought Scotland or the West Country-I dunno.

I will contact the person who sent me the photos and see if he knows who modified it.

I recall an article in Car and Driver about taking a voyage with Wallenius on one of their Ro-Ro boats. Apparently, if one car comes loose from it's tie downs in rough seas, it will reduce the other cars on it's deck to shrapnel. These Volvos don't look so bad.

Somebody sent me this via Lycos recently - it said it was somewhere in Ireland...

(And absolutely no comment from me).

Yes, it's in Ireland. To be precise the location is Roundstone on the north shore of Galway Bay. Don't know when it happened though.
I do remember being there about fifteen years ago when a chance encounter in the pub between a lobster (just caught) and a Jack Russell terrier ended in victory for the lobster.......
