I am not sure about it, but is it possible that the McLaren from 1976 was the only 6 Speed (Gear) car? The Tyrrell P34 must have had 5 gears, if I am right, but somewhere I have read that it was also a 6-Speed car. In Patrick Depailler’s book he mentioned that the P34 Prototype was with 5 gears.
Can one help me to clarify this matter?

Stefan,
From the data in Autocourse you are correct that the McLaren (M23 & M26) were the only cars running a 6 speed Hewland box. The Tyrrell P34 is listed as 5 speed only for 1976, but in 1977 it used both 5 and 6 speed arrangements. Could it be that the Depailler quote was from 1977 and not 1976?

Depailler said the P34 Prototype was 5 Speed, a german F1 Page mention that in 76 they run the car with 6 speed gearboxes
