What a brilliant character. I am sure that some people get involved like this for well balanced reasons and good luck to them. I must confess that I recently donned a flat cap and said,' i am here to work on an e-type' to get into a recent media/test day. My well balanced reason was wanting to have a look at some well prepped cars, and hear some good sounds. More fun than actually doing some work.
Some people are, sadly, not very well and can be just annoying, or potentially dangerous.
At the first meeting, this year, the car I was looking after was called into the scrutineers bay from the post race parc ferme. It was for one of the random checks done throughout the season, like ride-height, weight and so forth. I was having a chat with my friend, and a marshal, and turned round to lean on the rear wing only to find the car being pushed off down the pit lane, by somebody I had never seen before.
He was completely oblivious to our presence when we caught up, so we shrugged at each other and let him push the car to the garage. He knew which garage to go to.
He meant well and just wanted to be involved.
