Other then the fact that he was killed testing a Ferrari prior to Le Mans at Monza in 1965, and that Enzo Ferrari was at the test, what do you guys know about this young Italian driver? Was he a future star like Bandini, or was he just a good driver that Ferrari were testing to see if he was something special? Also, what happened in this accident? I know he went off on the front straight near the braking zone, but why?

Thanks.

Fiorentina 1,

According to the Motorsport Memorial website, Deserti was having trouble getting comfortable in the seat of the Ferrari, but Eugenio Dragoni, team manager of the Scuderia gave him a small pillow to get comfortable. Maybe he lost concentration due to the pillow and uncomfortable nature of the seat?

In his autobiography, John Surtees wrote, "A few days (after the Monza 1000 KM) we lost a potential Ferrari team driver on the same circuit during a period of private testing. This was Bruno Deserti, who had been quite successful in Formula Junior and was one of several drivers being given a trial in a works P2. He crashed heavily at the Curva Grande."

May I ask if anybody knows anything about his Sportscar career, please? From some infos I have from Italy, he started racing in 1961, probably on some local events.
