Its getting close to the first race of the season.....I am going down to work as an Official and looking forward to the break from work. I thought there would have been a lot more chat on the subject by now....

being an Australian, I am naturally excited at the prospect of Webber ending up on the podium on debut at Williams (hold that thought!!).

However, equally exciting is the prospect of the F1 circus once again coming to town........

So what news of the new teams? who is definately coming over? who is definately making the trek from within Oz??

I got super lucky last year and copped a buiness trip to Melbourne - landing from San Francisco the morning of the GP. Took a cab down and bought a ticket. Now I am in Melbourne often ad trying to figure out a way to get there full time (not all US citizens are jingonistic arses - this one would make a fine Aussie).

I will be making the trip again to the GP and will have a real seat instead of parking my butt on the grass (which was not a bad seat frankly).

Any parties post the race that can be gotten into?

My wife and I are flying down from Detroit, Michigan to work as scrutineers. We are so geeked that our applications were accepted by CAMS and are actually going to be working the race! Our CAMs licenses came last week.
We are scrutineers at the US GP and have worked the Canadian GP in the past too, but this is really, really special for us. The first GP of the year too!
We are staying in Melbourne's CBD for one week and after the race weekend we are going spend a week touring Victoria. We are looking forward to meeting and making friends with all you down under race fans.

Will be heading down as well, getting there a week early, so i can catch up with any events and stuff that happen during the lead up to the race.
I recall last year minardi had a unvieling and they had drivers doing all sorts of promo stuff around the city.
Will be staying at in the CBD as well.

Should be great :)

Hah...welcome to the people coming from extremes of temperature!!

Detroit must be sub-zero a lot these days, Darwin would be mid 30 degress celsius and when you all get to Melbourne you should pack for and expect any weather!!

Hope you all have a good safe time.

Bo Derek! Well I suppose I should search TNF for Collins Special and Chevrolet Brothers and MidWest circuit to complete my education.....I think that will be sufficient to strike a conversation....and then I suppose we will just take it from there... :p

from the CAMS website....

Star of movie '10' - Bo Derek - to join 10th anniversary celebrations of 2005 FORMULA 1 Foster's Australian Grand Prix
28/01/05

International actress Bo Derek, famous for her role in the movie “10”, will jet into Australia on Thursday, March 3, to enjoy the 10th anniversary celebrations of the 2005 Formula 1™ Foster’s Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park in Melbourne, Victoria.

Known around the globe as the “perfect 10” in the 70s, the incredibly glamourous Bo Derek is an avid motorsport fan due to a family history in the sport and is very excited to be heading “Down Under”.

As the official VIP international guest of the season-opening Australian Grand Prix, Bo will no doubt contribute to what is expected to be a “10 out of 10” event in its 10th year in Melbourne!

“I absolutely love motorsport and couldn’t be more excited to be participating in the 10th anniversary celebrations,” said Ms Derek from her home in California, USA.

“While my father has always been involved in motorsport – two-wheel and four-wheel – through positions held with Goodyear, Kawasaki, Honda and Yamaha, it was my great, great grandfather – a pioneer in car racing - who kick started our love of cars when he designed, built and raced his ‘Collins Special’ against the Chevrolet Brothers in the MidWest circuit,” Ms Derek said.

“Despite loving all motorsport, I’ve never seen F1 live and so am very excited at the prospect of doing so in Melbourne.”

Ms Derek will attend the Grand Prix Ball at Crown Palladium on Friday, March 4, and will present the Drivers’ Championship Award to Ferrari’s Michael Schumacher. She will then enjoy the festivities of raceday on Sunday, March 6, along with her brother Colin Collins, from a premier trackside hospitality suite.

“Ms Derek not only encapsulates the glamour and international appeal of Formula One, she creates a wonderful synergy with the 10-year anniversary of the Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park,” said Mr Ron Walker, Chairman of the Australian Grand Prix Corporation.

“Her visit will be another highlight of the celebrations, which will include a day of free general admission at the track on Thursday, March 3, and of course the opportunity to see whether Australia’s own Mark Webber can score his first podium finish in F1 on home soil.”

Bo Derek has graced the covers of magazines and screens around the world since she first shot to fame in the 70s as a model and then the star of the movie “10” alongside Dudley Moore. Not only beautiful and mad on motorsport, Bo also shares a passion for horses, surf and sailing – quite a fit for an adventure in Australia!

While Bo withdrew from the Hollywood scene in the mid-80s to pursue personal interests, she recently resumed her career following the passing of her husband, John Derek, hosting American Movie Classics’ original series, “The Hollywood Fashion Machine” and making memorable appearances on “The Drew Carey Show” and “Family Law.” She recently starred with Ryan O’Neal in the hit film comedy

“Malibu’s Most Wanted” and starred in two independent films - “Jack Mise” and “Life In The Balance.” Ms. Derek also has a recurring role on the US Televisions WB’s highest-rated series “7th Heaven”.

Alongside her acting ventures, Ms Derek has written her memoir, “Riding Lessons: Everything that Matters In Life I Learned From Horses” and her passion and compassion for animals has led to her line of pet products, Bless The Beasts. Ms Derek also holds positions on a number of boards, not least serving as Honorary Chairperson for the Veterans Administration National Rehabilitation Special Events and as a member of the board of trustees of the Kennedy Centre for the Performing Arts, appointed by President Bush.

Twenty-five years after she first seared the world consciousness with her image, Bo Derek is as captivating and as ravishingly beautiful as ever.

What great info.
What positions are you and F1Fan2+ wife likely to receive from CAMS? (on track/pit paddock/public enclosures etc.)

What with your privileged access..
May I request you all take along small digital cameras and snap any and all things of interest there.
Then plop them on the AtlasF1 Approved image site and share what you experienced.!!!

I will be hold up in some hotel in Seattle following along via NigelRed5's Live Forum

Enjoy all

First year we went - we passed our cameras from the cheap seats through to the marshals who were only to happy during practice to take a few shots without the fence features.
Interesting that some F1 cars will do a slow run in the CBD on Thursday - will be fun if someone really lights one up down Swanston St. Mayor So says it will be velly good for the shops, but the shopkeepers all note the cars are not going through Chinatown!

Jp,
Claudia and I will be scrutineers, that's tech inspectors in US speak. Don't know whether we will be in the F1 garages or the support race paddock, but as we know absobloodylutely diddly-squat about the Australian race series rules, I expect it will be F1.
We are too visible while on duty to take photos, but we do have one picture taken of Schumi's 2004 US GP race winning Ferrari with the Indianapolis Scrutineers. That's Jo Bauer in the FIA blue shirt in the middle. I will try to put it on AtlasF1 Approved as you suggested. (I am new at this)
We will be touring Victoria the week after the race. Can any of the Australian readers suggest some must-not-be-missed places to go?

The Stewards Cup for 2005 has gone to the Marshals of Sector Three under John Felix (The Pom).

The letter announcing this goes on to say....Well done, team, and obviously great leadership from John who makes the long trip each year.
