I checked up and Jo was there with the Lotus B.R.M and there WAS a third 804 entered but there is no driver named on Darren's site and the car never appeared. So is the Siffert information correct and if not where did the good Doctor get it from?

You need a copy of the recent book Porsche 718 & 804 by Foedisch, Nesshover, Behrendt, and Rossbach. It completely describes the entire F1 and F2 program from 1957 onward, with lots if details of the cars' development plus some amazing photographs heretofore unseen by us. To me, it was absolutely the best Porsche book of 2010. $120 plus shipping from Toad Hall Motorbooks, www.toadhallbook.com or 303/237-0911 (Toad Hall specializes in Porsche titles).

Perusing my Christmas present, Doctor Lawrence's book about F.1 cars, I see a comment that Jo Siffert was entered for the 1962 Solitude Grand Prix in a Porsche 804. An eyebrow or two raised slightly. I never knew that! I checked up and Jo was there with the Lotus B.R.M and there WAS a third 804 entered but there is no driver named on Darren's site and the car never appeared. So is the Siffert information correct and if not where did the good Doctor get it from?
Barry:
The above-reference book, Porsche Type 718 & 804, shows three Porsches in that race:
804/03 for Gurney, entered by Porsche System Engineering; qualified second, finished first and set fastest lap
804/02 for Bonnier, entered by Porsche System Engineering; qualified third, finished second
718/20-01 for de Beaufort, entered by Ecurie Maarsbergen, qualified eighth, finished fifth
The book's seemingly thorough race results do not list Jo Siffert as a driver in any event, but his excellent new biography, Jo Siffert by Ed Heuvink, just arrived here, so I'll have a look at that.
Surprisingly, at least to me, the results do show that Ludwig Heimrath drove 718/2-04, entered by Porsche KG, for the Pau GP in April 1962, though he was a DNF. Until I read this book, I never realized how many events the team actually ran. It's pretty amazing!

Didn't Heinz Schiller drive a 718?Barry:

Ludwig Heimrath was rewarded by Porsche with a works entry after his good results in north american sports cars races.
At Solitude Schiller was there always with #202 but entered by Scuderia Filipinetti. Other 718 present Carel Godin de Beaufort #201, Ecurie Maarsbergen. The SSS take two entries for Vacarella and Abate but these 718 dna.

No the Siffert info is not correct. Jo Siffert was regarded as a talent in that time and connected to the Suisse Ecurie Filipinetti who owned a 718 F2. That car was driven by Schiller. Mitter and Siffert drove other Filipinetti cars.Perusing my Christmas present, Doctor Lawrence's book about F.1 cars, I see a comment that Jo Siffert was entered for the 1962 Solitude Grand Prix in a Porsche 804. The third 804 was perhaps for Barth. But Porsche had no car ready. NO THOUGHTS OF SIFFERT
This a very disapointing book, in my opinion. No words about the hillclimbs entered by Filipinetti, nothing new about selling and dealing with 718, very confusing text, good is the part about all the test and deveolping the 804. not much about M.May leaving Porsche in anger. (See Pau). Only few information of the private entered 718s.My post was intended to refer to the Solitude race. It's surprising that Schiller's entry there isn't mentioned in the 804/718 book, especially as i've just ordered a copy!
