Hi!

It took me a fair bit longer than I had ambitiously planned, but here they are - the first correct answers of the season. As before, the percentage thingy in the brackets is the fraction of players that managed to guess that particular duel outcome correctly.

Duel outcomes, round 1 (Melbourne)

Qualifying: Outcome Worth (pts)

1	Ferrari – BAR 2 (-) -

2	Renault – Williams	X (21 %)	1.79

3	McLaren – Sauber	X (5 %) 1.95

4	Red Bull – Toyota	X (56 %)	1.44

5	Jordan – Minardi	1 (53%) 1.47

6	Ferrari – Renault	X (47 %)	1.53

Total for qualifying (max) 8.19

Race:

7	Ferrari – BAR 1 (77 %)	1.23

8	Renault – Williams	1 (44 %)	1.56

9	McLaren – Sauber	1 (72 %)	1.28

10	Red Bull – Toyota	1 (12 %)	1.88

11	Jordan – Minardi	1 (47 %)	1.53

12	Ferrari – Renault	X (51 %)	1.49

Total for race (max) 8.98

Overall (max) 17.16

Those should be quite self-explanatory but a word or two about the Ferrari – BAR situation just to make sure we’re on the same page here. Jenson outqualified Rubens while Takuma and Michael had no aggregate times to their name, that’s why the qual result is a 2. Not that anyone had guessed it so it’s academic anyway. : As for the race, those cunning little buggers at BAR decided to retire both their cars on the final laps of the race - hence the result is a 1 instead of an X.

Moving on to the results. Round 1 wasn't exactly a high-score bonanza of mythical proportions but, nevertheless, a number of players managed to do rather well, breaking into the over-10-points territory and stuff. And lo and behold, I seem to have won this round myself! Which is, like, slightly uncomfortable but I’m sure I can live with it. :p Behind kismet, newbies Al. and Shadow occupy the lower steps of the podium.
Congrats!

I'd offer some smiley champagne and trophies to improve the spectacle, but the F1 Pools Podium Celebration Committee seems to have been so busy keeping minutes and losing days that they've merrily forgotten to stock up on appropriate beverages and trinkets. So let's have some pom pom action instead. :D

For reference:

 popular guess	4,44	5,53	9,98 (7th)

 Joe Average	2,77	4,25	7,02 (24th)

Popular guess consists of the most, well, popular guesses for each individual duel, while Joe Average is an imaginary chap whose score is simply the mathematical average of your/our scores.

It goes without saying (but I'll just type it anyway!) that I do my best not to mess up with my numbers, but I also copy and paste stuff around in an occasionally less than organized manner, so **** could happen. Feel free to point out possible mistakes and I’ll correct them ASAP. Though there’d better not be any - I wanna enjoy my moment. Posted Image

Thanks for participating, see you in round 2. Cheers!Posted Image

They did retire but they were still classified as they finished more than 90% of the laps. I believe that last year you considered all classified drivers as finishers.

BTW, I would lose if you change the Ferrari-BAR outcome to X.

I don't think I did. I hope I didn't. :) I remember many a frustrating moment spent skimming through team press releases etc. in a valiant effort to verify that some poor little thing (usually a Minardi) that finished the race 4 laps behind the winner actually did reach the chequered flag as opposed to blowing up (or something) at the last stages of the race - unnoticed by either cameras or a hawk-eyed game host.

I did say 'classified' in the original rules, but there definitely was a clarification thingy about this at some point last year (following a rather spectacular late-race BAR blow-up, I think). And there's a special note in the current set of rules that says the very thing. I actually toyed with the idea of using the official classification this year but decided to keep things simple and not change anything.

Anyway, thanks for keeping an eye on how I run this thing. It's good to know someone actually reads my ramblings.

Wow this is a turn around,

I'm propping up the GTG and GTR tables, so 2nd to kismet in this brings a :) to the day.
For the regulars, don't worry this won't last.

I'm going to have to put some thought into Malaysia. Arse!

"classified" was in my recollection. I have just checked one case of a retirement with classification from last year (Zonta at Spa) and indeed it did not count. Obviously I don't want to change a thing about last year's competition.

My appology for the trouble and thanks for this great game.
