Don't be afflicted if you don't find it; I'm still wondering where there is something interesting in the April issue except somes pages on D.Hulme.

interesting. The Jaguar E Type Low Drag tested by José Rosinski, is a replica !
If you like this, I understand that you buy it. But, I will not buy it.

Oh dear. I found a copy, and bought it, just because I have every issue since the very first.
It's all very well getting Jose Rosinski on board as a test driver, but the first test is of a replica Low Drag E Type. That, however, is nothing compared with most of the remaining content. With the exception of an article on Denny Hulme, most of it is drivel. 12 pages on "musicians and cars", 13 on a husband and wife who did the Rallye Monte-Carlo Historique in a Fiat 500. Some very unexciting photos and prose on Woodcote, Thillois and Peraltada corners occupy a further 8 pages.
This is topped up with a two page interview with the wife of a driver some of you may know - Ludovic Caron - which could have been lifted from the pages of Hello magazine.
What a sad state for a once great magazine.

Hmmm, fluff infects Motor Sport, TNF, and now Autombile Historique, notice any pattern beginning to emerge here?

Roger's copy reached Cheshire since he subscribes to the magazine.
Yes it is a French magazine, written in French, and unlikely to find a mass market - in Lincolnshire.

Roger,
I'm in the same situation: the last copy I received was the November/December one (nº 51). I've sent two e-mails to Automobile Historique... with any answer.

Last year at Retromobile they had a large stand with Champagne and all, the magazine was small and
looked like a "gazette mondaine".
This year, no stand at Retromobile, no more mag...

I've started to suspect something's going wrong, when I saw a HS number appear last Summer with no previous anouncement.
I have some experience in how magazines work, and when we have more articles than the ones we could publish on the regular numbers (I mean the total numbers that were already payed by the sponsors), a HS number normaly appears, and that my friends is often a sign that "The End" is near. SAD.

Dozens of publications appears on the press scene each month and dozens desappear in the same time, and it is a pity that Automobiles Historiques was among the later category in January.
Although this "new" magazine will probably not replace Automobiles Historiques in the nostalgic hearts, I'm nevertheless able to inform you of the rebirth of Auto Passion this month, from the merging of two other magazines : Citro Passion (which was dedicated to old Citroën enthusiasts) and 1093 Magazine (for Alpine and old Renault performance cars enthusiasts).
Auto Passion itself had desappeared some years ago, after it had replaced Le Fanatique de l'Automobile and later the Fanauto. It was then published in the same spirit of Automobiles Historiques with a lot of well documented articles dedicated to the history of motor racing and sports/racing cars. Wait and see Auto Passion in its new format : apart from an interesting article about a restaured Alpine A 210, the first issue mainly deals with French popular cars...

20 issues of one magazine
30 of a.n.other
Automobile Historique as far as I recall appeared twice in different guises
Auto Passion was one of the longest living.
Pity.....they were good magazines.
Was it anything to do with the passing away of Jean Luc Lagadere (yes Mr Matra)
who also owned .....I think Hachete ? a sort of French Haymarket ?

I phoned them a couple of times to complain and they promised a couple of free issues.
I also found the content to be full of good intentions and ideas, but it included just as many mistakes (they even talked about Cevert's two GP victories in one issue). There were clearly serious flaws in the editorial process and I suspect that they were running on a shoestring budget or may even have been a one-man show, at least on the production side of things.
I am rather miffed that Automobile Historique has just disappeared without any information for the readers and subscribers. I took out a subscription for 12 issues and probably received seven or eight. They owe me!

In February 2002 AH was re-launched as a monthly with Sebastien Dulac still the editor, but without his father or brother or Flavien Marcais.
In late 2002 plans were made to publish the magazine in English, and a translation of the magazine’s text became available to subscribers. This never developed into a full-sized English version, and the idea was dropped in mid-2003, apparently to concentrate on “doing a Lord March” by organizing a Festival of Speed in the Domaine de Saint-Cloud near Paris in 2004 and 2005. I don’t think this made the expected profit.
Early last year it became difficult to find the magazine in newsagents; hence my original post. Perhaps the writing went on the wall for Automobile Historique in May last year, when they announced a new publishing schedule “to improve circulation”. What they didn’t announce was that the following issue (July/August No.51) would be printed in Lithuania. This coincided with Simon Dulac taking over the family printing business from his father. Perhaps the family is unwilling to print a loss-making magazine at a special price any longer. I always wondered how they survived without much in the way of advertisements. The July/August and September issues came out on time. The next issue was a month late. Since then nothing has been published.
It’s a shame that the only magazine in France dedicated to the history of cars and motor racing should vanish after 52 issues. It had its faults, the articles sometimes contained gross errors of fact, the captions were not to be relied on, and some articles in the last few issues might have been better off in Paris Match. I’m happy that I have all 52 issues
It’s odd that the web site http://www.automobilehistorique.com/ is still operating, promising a forthcoming issue, and inviting subscriptions.

Your 52 numbers are 1 to 51 and the HS, right?
I used to have all the numbers too, but unfortunately #20 was stolen last September.
I have a few copies doubled in my colection. If someone have #20 and any one of my doubles missing, perhaps we could setup a trade. My available numbers are: 4, 5, 6, 10, 12, 13, 14, 21, 29, 32 and 49.

Whatever is being said, it was a bloody good effort and they should be applauded for trying to make it work.
At the Retromobile, seeing there was no stand and being unable to find a "latest" issue for sale anywhere, I suspected something was wrong.
At least there was a very good interview with my wife........

See post #28.
The publisher's father ran a printing business. When the father retired and the publisher's brother took over, "family rates" for printing ceased.the publisher ran a printing business so he was able to carry on until the money ran out
