We "Keep on running" :)

I've always wondered why the group's bassist (and Steve's brother) was known as "Muff". I'm not sure it's a sobriquet I'd have been pleased to have.

We need a spot of "Rear Action" on our mooted meeting I think, it's getting desperate, Dan.

11th no good for me, I'm around the 4th though. As no-one had mentioned the meeting for a while, I assumed it wasn't happening...

Someone needs to make an executive decision - where's Roger?

Presumably Roger is in Cluj - as that's where his football team are at the moment. He's certainly earned his spurs travelling all that way for a footie match.

18th October fine for me....

I take it that includes me Dan? I'll be there, happy to carshare as usual, though it looks it might just be the Coxless twos. Or three if Roger joins us.

Usually about half an hour before I arrive, Paul.

Seriously though, I take it as a 7.30 for 8.00pm arrival, and in fact generally make the northern ones quite early with the Cheshire bus.

A small but select band of enthusiasts gathered at the Eagle & Child. In no particular order the following made the effort:

Adam F, Roger C, Dan R, Steve W, Paul H, Phil R and last (as usual) Kingsley Rob

We were also joined by the miracle that is texting by Simon Arron from the comfort of his settee and Alan Cox who came to us from Russia with love (St Petersburg to be precise).

We will get the nasty bit out of the way first so that David Beard has the maximum time to recover but we did talk briefly about Football!

The proper discussions were as usual far ranging and included several trips to Mallory Park!

Vintage Rallies
Curborough Sprint course
Motorsport venues - triggered by the excellent but flawed book Motorsport Explorer
The Daily Express International Trophy (Silverstone)
European Formula 2
The sons of famous or infamous fathers which led onto question 7
Banned from TNF
Malta Sport
F5000 - triggered by the excellent "Formula 5000 in Europe" book by Wolfgang Klopfer
Simon Arron
Harewood's 50th anniversary
3 Sisters sprint course
Oulton Park
McLaren dealers and their window displays
Frank Sytner
Atlantic Computer Leasing & John Foulston
Formula Ford 2000
Dan's 50th Birthday book which triggered questions 4 and 5
A Tall African mammal
Formula 3
Andrea de Adamich
The 3 Amigos of F1

Points of note:

1) Kingsley Rob was on bitter
2) Simon Arron went to bed early (lightweight)
3) Dan R refused a pint!

Several questions were raised and in no particular order they included:
1) Will there be a 2012 Kilton Park GP?
2) Which driver was in the very first F5000 race and also won a race in the last season? Apparently there were several answers!
3) Which Hollywood actor's son raced in FF1600?
4) Whose in that car? You probably won't get that one!
5) Which March is that? Relatively easy IMHO
6) What was 'significant' about the Silverstone International Trophty race of 1976?
7) Who earned their main incomes from pornography or the sex trade?

I am sure that I missed something and as Adam, Roger & Dan were at the pub from 7 o'clock I am sure they had far ranging discussions before the rest of us arrived!

We were in full anorak mode at certain times of the evening...ample proof was when two blokes came to sit next to us and after listening to us for five minutes decided to get up and stand at the bar :rotfl: :rotfl:

What is the provisional date of the 2012 Kilton GP (assuming Bernie doesn't postpone it by a year)? If it's after the F1 season, I might well be around.

As for cars, I'd like to recycle an old idea: any pre-1980 sports or saloon car, purchased especially for the evening with maximum budget set at £25. You can find all sorts of stuff on eBay or in the sale section at pendleslotracing.co.uk and elsewhere (BMW 2002s, Opel GTs, Porsche 936s, VW Golf Mk1s, Lola T298s etc). It would be interesting to see how diverse an assembly we can muster. I haven't yet found any Austin A40s, sadly, though there's probably time for Rob to build one from scratch. Oddly, nobody has yet modelled Roy Yates's Zodiac...

Sorry to butt in on you chaps and your Northern meet thread..but Simon mentioning that fierce pink 'Yates' Zodiac has reminded me of a race entry I noticed for it in a Snetterton programme. It was in a long distance 3-hour special saloon & modsports race..I wonder if it finished?
