I'd give them a fair chance of success if they did!

A PAR has affirmed the 29th as satisfactory for him as opposed to the 31st which he can't make, how about aiming for the 29th?

Is it not an Eagle and Kiddy-wink evening?

29 fine by me; can we confirm it is Up North at the Eagle and Child?

So it's an evening of whimsical poetry?

Eagle and Child it is, I'd completely forgotten about the Kilton GP meeting...

Still in parc fermé, Barry. I presume your address is tucked away in the box.

I'll check tomorrow, parc fermé - aka my conservatory - is blooming chilly at the moment.

Well?

That's a good question Barry - it's unusual for Sarge not to have posted his report by now.

Unfortunately Steve wasn't feeling 100%, I've just spoken to him. I didn't think I had his phone number to call him last night, hence resorting to messages on Facebook, but found it on my phone this morning. We missed your presence Sarge, and your minute taking.

I won't try to emulate the ScribeMeister, suffice to say the most memorable quote of the evening was Mr Beard announcing to a stunned audience that Aston Villa beat Manchester United in the 1957 FA Cup Final.

Other topics discussed were:

Hales vs Piper
Single supplier vs Tyre wars
Sarge's absence
Rear seat room in the PARellimobile - a Mercedes saloon commonly referred to as being a "Compact Executive"
The welcome continuation of Alan C's excellent photobooks and calendars despite the demise of Jessop's
The decimation of High Street names, and who's next - Waterstone's, WH Smith or Thorntons
Our ex-roving GP reporter becoming a nine to fiver. Well, eight thirty to fiver. It was hoped this wouldn't preclude some attendances at northern TNF meetings, although the usual text presence was evident, albeit not as prolific as in other get togethers
The HS2 rail line
A new venue for the Northern meetings, Dan having become disillusioned with the Eagle and Child - tropical temperatures and a decline in service being cited as reasons
The two lager drinkers sampling "Riley MPH" not their usual Stella. The Elehant's Foot was off
The longed necked one's antipodean adventure, and his betrothal to Sid
The "Giraffe's Prayer" and whether the author would ever reveal the content to his fellow Scouser

Plenty of non-motorsport content, and a convivial atmosphere.

Come back soon Sarge, all is forgiven - I am sure my list is not as comprehensive as yours would have been.

Excellent summary, Rob. And all done without reference to notes! As well as the 'Elephant's Foot', the 'Old Slapper' dried up, as well.

Thank you Alan.

Which reminds me, as well as Sarge's absence, Mr Beard turned up alone.

No inference intended...

Having gone on to drinking what Dan refers to as "the proper stuff" I was looking forward to an Old Slapper but had to make do with what else was on offer

Other questions sent by text:

Was there ever a FF2000 run in Martini colours, 74 Trojan drivers and Special Saloon Fiat drivers.

I good night as always.

Get well soon Steve.

Cheers,

Alan

As ever, an excellent evening, only slightly marred by the E&C being distinctly understaffed I regret. I had a quick word with the Front of House man, he didn't take too kindly to my, polite, suggestions. Problem is, none of us can think of an alternative that's up North, quite close to the M6, and of reasonable standard food and beer-wise. Any ideas chaps??

Another item of discussion, via text, were other questions posed by SA, not least a Pinch Plant FAt car other than the Lyncar. And Phil's Pirelli career and associated memories of celebs they'd hired.

Shame SW wasn't there, I was looking forward to seeing the 'Ayers papers'

On the way home with Alan, Rob and Pat in the back seat: comments such as....

" Is that yours?"

" Is it in yet?"

...could be heard

They claimed they were looking for the seat belts

Likely story :rotfl: :rotfl:

Unfortunately yes, F********

Why does this happen? If I wanted to talk about this I could do it at work with the dull people there. I expect TNF to be an escape...
I know, I'm like a stuck gramophone record.

I know it's been almost 14 months since the TNF meeting that incorporated a 'goodbye to Barry' aspect - including a mass of most welcome presents, but I'm afraid it's taken me this long to get my finger out and get the superb Andrew Kitson Jim Clark print framed.

However, yesterday I collected it from an art supplies shop in Mosta and I'm delighted with their efforts.

Posted Image

I chose a dark green frame as I thought it most appropriate. It will be hanging on the wall of Flat 5, Promenade Building, as soon as I make up my mind where to put it.

Thank you once again to everyone who was involved in this and all the other presents.

Nicely mounted Barry.

I wonder if any of my north west TNF colleagues are venturing to Race Retro on the Friday. I can feel myself emerging from my winter hibernation.

Last time I was there was a few years ago with MSV Phil on their stand. Has enough time elapsed Phil to confess that we both sneaked a sit in the F1 car on the stand? We were like a couple of kids at the end of the three days.

Im hoping to go on the Friday. It all depends on work as I have a job deadline that day.

I think a few others may be attending.

I'm pleased to be able to report that my box of cars just arrived back in Qawra. Thanks for sending them, Rob.

Not so pleased to report that half of them are damaged, one or two beyond repair. Definitely nothing to do with Rob's packaging, which was the same as they had on the way over, but somewhere along the way the box, which appeared perfectly o.k. from the outside, must have taken a bit of a pounding.

Oh well.... I think maybe the exercise won't be repeated.

Oh dear Barry I'm really sorry to hear this. I'm not sure if there is any insurance cover we can pursue. Like you did, I declared a value of £100 on the package.

It's odd if the box looked ok on the outside that they suffered so much inside. The only damage incurred at the KPGP was one detached windscreen as reported. Apart from a few untypable expletives, I don't know what to say.

No blame whatsoever is due in your direction, Rob.

I think that virtually all the damaged ones were on the top layer.

I cannot imagine quite how this all happened. In several cases it is the driver figures that is broken, mostly across their arms, but Tony Marsh's head has been snapped clean off.

One or two have had the body detached from the chassis and in a couple of cases the chassis is actually broken.

Several screens are also knocking about loose in boxes.

I guess the truth is, the outer box has not been crushed or anything like that but I reckon it's been tossed around in transit, despite the FRAGILE tape all around the box.

To quote a certain person, it was an act of the purest optimism to have.... etc etc etc. In his case he was talking about cheese but the analogy holds.

Very sorry and disappointed to hear this news, Barry (and Rob). It looks as though it was too much to hope that the various postal services would be able to co-ordinate two safe and secure deliveries.
As you say, not an expirement to be repeated. Many thanks for entrusting them to us in the first place, only sorry that so many are destined for the restoration 'shop.

Sorry to hear that Barry. I know you took a bit of a risk sending them to us but you would think the postal service would be able to deliver them undamaged.

I think we all appreciate your efforts to provide our pre-christmas enjoyment so it's a bit frustrating that it turned out this way.

Apparently David Piper knows a good lawyer who's good with damaged cars :)

Barry, so sorry that the wonderful cars have ended up shunted beyond repair.

I think we should discuss at the next meeting a fund raising exercise to (a) reimburse Barry, and (b) purchase a set of age appropriate vehicles for further events.
