Yes very lively and good company! Apologies if I did not bid a proper farewell to everyone, I legged it when I saw it was raining heavily.

Gentlemen, check out the ancien pilotes thread, am I alone in possibly not knowing my Dickie from my elbow?

Rob

Another great night in great company
Like Rob I didn't say a 'proper' farewell to everyone.
I nipped into the gents for a quickie before the drive home (I'm sure you know what it's like) ;)
and when I came out everyone had legged it :|
Then when i got to the door I discovered why.

Well it's red faced Retro Rob time here, after my Dickie faux pas. I wish I'd mentioned it last night. Just resize the photo to size "Tiny" and you'll see it's a mistake anyone could make...

Have a good weekend!

A small but select group met at The Smoker last night. I reserved a table on arrival as the place was crawling.

Great fun....but we need to stop advertising our meetings

Have you noticed how Kingsley sometimes signs off his messages with:

"See you later"?

I wonder if he means "See you; later"?

I've heard of people who don't know their arse from a hole in the ground but never anyone who does not know their Dickie from their Eric. :smoking:

May be Kingsley's 'See you; later' is a bit like a Glaswegian's 'See you...Jimmy!'...

As far as the evening is concerned it was good not to having to project my voice for a change and with regard to the 'no lightweight there'...I would emphasise that comment refers to the book and not me...

Finally, thanks lads it was a great evening!

Hope to be present at the next one...

As both of my listeners last night would have heard, I celebrated Bjorn Ulvaeus' birthday with a couple of Abba songs and "One Night in Bangkok" from the musical Chess. Sung by actor/singer Murray Head, I noted when doing my research his rather odd middle name "Seafield".

Idling away a few moments this morning on the Duncan Hamilton thread, I viewed a Youtube link kindly provided by raceannouncer Vince, of the 1953 Le Mans 24 Hours.

I nearly fell off me stool when over a minute into the film the credits came up. Written and produced by Seafield Head. Yes Murray's dad, and dad to brother Anthony too, also an accomplished actor, known to many as the Prime Minister in Little Britain.

Looking at the film, particularly the start, I'm surprised that nobody thought the track in front of the stands at the start was rather narrow, and at some stage a nasty accident could ensue. That's the benefit of hindsight I suppose. It's frighteningly narrow. Here we go http://m.youtube.com.....v=NmclYtEbKo0

I'm sure that many Northern TNFers will be interested to know that Dave 'Fasttoes' Williams had his first credited race reports appear in Autosport last week when he covered the two-day Anglesey meeting. Having been a stalwart contributor of articles to the Northern BMRMC newsletter 'Outpost' for a number of years, I know he was delighted to, at last, see his work appear under his own by-line in Autosport.
Well done, Dave.

Is it getting near the time we should think about initial discussions leading to exploratory talks about considering a tentative date for another meeting?

Although I'm aware that Mr Raine has indicated he can't make it, shall we aim for the 22nd as that appears to suit the majority who have responded?

Preparing the cars for the 1960 F.2 Brussels Grand Prix I had forgotten that the winning Lotus 16 from the Kilton Park Grand Prix 2012 had arrived back sans windscreen until I opened the box.

The good news is that I had a couple of spare screens from the 1959 works 16s, so David Piper's car is whole again.

All the damaged Coopers have been either repaired or reliveried for the new season.

That's good news Barry. Being the winning Piper Lotus that arrived back without said windscreen I was half expecting a bill, or at least a solicitor's letter. Good job I didn't break the engine.

The 22nd is good for me too. Nights will be drawing in by then. :well:
