Niky, of little help I will confess, but Forix says: "Now in the Women's racing series & occasional Italian races."

She has never had so much as a seat fitting in a Champ Car to my knowledge.

I have found some references to her until 2002... After that, she dissapeared... She did some races at the Women Championship in the States, as far as I found, and then came back to Europe for some races there... I will keep looking for information. Thanks to all!

Ok, got a good one for you here! At the Northern TNF meet in Mere, Cheshire a week ago, we were fortunate enough to be addressed by Colin Bennett who ran Giovanna in F3000 on behalf of her then boyfriend, Flavio Briatore.
Now the story goes that Giovanna was at the back of the grid at I think Monza, and the signal went up to evacuate the grid for the start, and Colin says to her, "Good luck, have a good race and enjoy yourself". Just as he's turning away to leave the grid, Giovanna replies ....."Don't leave me....."
Absolutely priceless!!! :rotfl:

If my memory serves me right, she was also girlfriend of Luis Pérez Sala when she was in F3000 and he was in F1...

If (and it's a big IF) I remember my Latin from school, I think Giovannā Amati can be translated as "Men loved by Giovanna" which matches the way this thread is developing.

Not to mention that Giovanna Amati is an anagram of 'I am not a vagina'

That would go against (a.) her Formula 1 record and (b.) my teenage fantasies. :(

It certainly didn't seem to count against her where Flavio was concerned...

My main memory of her is in the paddock at the Pau Grand Prix c.1993, when she was racing in the main F3000 International Championship event. I seem to remember she had qualified fairly well (i.e. she had qualified at all) and was in a defiant mood when I interviewed her. She was talking about equal rights and how she wasn't taken seriously as a racer because she was a woman and how she would prove that she could get to the top on hard work and talent and not because she was a glamourous lady etc etc.

Later that day, she was seen posing for a photo in the cockpit applying lipstick using the mirror!

Not a top-drawer peddler, but fairly competitive and always a welcome addition to any paddock.

Clearly out of her league in F1, but there are an awful lot of male F1 failures you could say that about. It was largely her looks and background that enabled her to get as far as she did with her fairly unimpressive record, so I'd say she was a bit unwise to claim her gender held her back.
