Well, I like it. Possibly because it is somewhat self-aware in its parody.

Exactly, and it has provided me with more laugh-out-loud moments than most recent 'comedy' programmes. There are some comedy classics, in my opinion, such as the Bond Three-wheeler feature. I just feel that it has lost its way recently, and when it is not funny, it is dire. I'll happily give it another chance, but I'm not wading through slurry in the hope of one laugh.

They have found an international audience who are not particularly selective. The lowest common denominator etc.. If it sells worldwide, why worry about real motoring enthusiasts?

It appeals to a certain type of viewer, and there appears to be an awful lot of them. I agree with all the sentiments, it's shockingly poor , formulaic to the nth degree, but in its present format it makes the Beeb a lot of dosh. I just wish they'd have a "grown-up" alternative to run alongside it.

I wonder how much of it is where it sits in the schedule. 8pm on a Sunday Night isn't the slot for really competitive viewing is it? Everyone just wants some light entertainment to send them into the working week.

In defense of the "International audience" we seem to be some way behind in the schedule--which would indicate that we don't have anything good to look forward to... Most of the Top Gear that I watch is on youtube anyway, that way I can select what I want.
This is the best I have seen lately--for someone who left England forty years ago it is marvelous-only Clarkson could come up with that ending!:

You could well be right David, I didn't check - I should have said it seems like five years.

Edited to say I should have read the caption to the video, but I was too excited...
