No, Malcolm still does very well I belive in Classic Clubmans, but the Jackson family used to travel to all the meeting, Cyril took lots of photos, but has sadly passed on, but his boys, Colin & Paul I think, have carried on the tradition. I was told that they have video film from back to the arc, when I raced!
Here's a picture of me and Malcolm at the Clubmans 40th Anniversary Celebrations on 12 June 2005..............and you are quite correct, Malcolm was, and still is very quick indeed.
Cheers

Veteran Speedway must be amongst the cheapest motor sport going - no entry fees, 150 quid engine rebuilds, and no troublesome brakes to maintain!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I thought you might like this picture, it was taken last week at Brandon (Coventry) on my return after over 2 years out due to my shoulder injury. I'm glad to report that I won two of my 3 races.
We don't pay an entry fee, the track is just over a mile from home, so no travel expenses (I go to every meeting anyhow, and get free admission because I race in the Vets), the engine I just bought was a total disaster, had to have a new barrell & piston, new oversize main bearing a new exhaust valve and guide. I had to pay £250, including labour, to get it re-built, but it should now last 40 or so races (2 years). The bike I have, a genuine Erskine-JAP "Staride" (1952) should increase in value, so the only real expense is my licence and compulsory ACU/Speedway Control Board insurance, at about £80 or so for a year!
Dream on car racers!
Cheers,

I've just had some private correspondence with Ian Senior, and it reminded me of a funny story.
My Dad was a small builder of new houses, he was thankfully always successful, and lucky I guess with the cash flow etc. Thankfully he always paid for my racing although he knew nothing about it. He was into football, which I hate, and golf, which I tried but was absolutely useless at!
My parents used to occasionally come to meetings, and one such meeting was at Snetterton in 1972. For some reason I can't remember I had once stayed at a Hotel nearby called Bunwell Manor. It was in its infancy, but seemed ok, so I booked them a room. They came down in their own car so we could leave separately in the morning, as I had to be there early for scrutineering etc.
When we arrived my Dad nearly had heart failure. He always enjoyed a drink or few (like Dave Morgans Dad) and to his horror we found that they were, due to some hitch, temporarily without a drinks licence! We had a "dry" meal and then wandered off down the village to the local. When we walked in it was like these films you see, the place went silent as if we were Martians just landed! Anyhow, after we ordered it got back to normal, they just weren't used to "Incomers", and in any case we couldn’t understand what they were saying!
Come race day I managed to total my Clubmans car in practice, I went straight on at the Esses and it almost bent in half! I got carted off to the Medical room although I was ok apart from a sore neck. When my parents arrived the car was still at the Esses, by the bridge, so then my Mother also nearly had heart failure at seeing the car! I can't remember any more, but I did go on to win the Clubmans Championship that year!
Cheers,

I noticed the other day that Creighton was entered for a Formula Libre race at Oulton Park in October 1976 in the F2 Ardmore March 752 - Ray Mallock's car of course. The car didn't appear.
But did he ever race it?

Can anyone tell me when the Mk21 came out? and what did it look like? i have a chassis that was built in Adelaide,Australia by a guy named Peter Bail. i have the chassis suspension and some bodywork all built back when the 21 was new and am thinking of building it up as an historic car (the rules seem to allow that here) i just need some history on these which i'm struggling to find on the internet.
I've only just found this topic, thanks to recent posts, and I'm jolly glad I did.
Jeremy - the Mk21 came out in 1980 and if you PM me your email address I'll send you a picture.
Arthur Mallock was a 'courtesy' uncle when I was a child. "Uncle Arthur" and "Auntie Kay" were part of my childhood, though not so much the boys Richard and Ray. The book title "Lone Furrow" was my father's inspiration, and he also supplied a lot of the early material, pace Paul Lawrence, who made a great job of it. My father wanted there to be a written testimony to Arthur, and it happened. He also wanted one for Holly Birkett, and that didn't though I still have some material he left.
Perhaps another day.

Long shot I know, but as this is probably the only place I have found any reference to the man then I will give it a go. I'm trying to find out the contact details for Roy Bates, the phone number I have is long dead and I don't have any address, despite spending days going through on-line phone books etc for Leicester/shire. I suspect he's now probably retired and that's why I cant find him. If any one has any contact details would you please be good enough to contact me ideally via 'PM' and let me know? Really do appreciate any help or leads as I need to contact him. I'm not a stalker BTW!
Thanks
Roly
