The wheels look great, are they original spec? I honestly cannot remember.
I know you have to have them fitted, but it seems strange to see the silencers fitted..........

Is there anybody out there who would have the McLaren drawings for the rear uprights, the tall variety for my Eaton car.
Chalky is finishing up my monocoque and its going to be on the water soon, I also need a measurement for the width of the front aerofoils
(Yes he does live in England, but just like "Q" from James Bond, his exact whereabouts is confidential!)
Thanks
Ian

The purple rivets look like blind rivets. Would they be made from Monel and why purple?

I'm sure there are many others who would also like an update.
Any progress to report ?

Purple was the standard colour of such rivets in the aerospace industry. I don't think it was a fashion statement!

Its really fascinating to see the amount of hand fabbed items that went into the construction of a chassis in those days....hundreds of man-hours of workOriginally posted by Exact10
[B]here are some more pics of the Eaton car, chalky is making a lovely job of it.
The inner and outer skins are original, floor is new and the bulkheads have all been reconditioned and painted.

The undertray on the Reynard 903 I had was just the same. I must have taken over 50 hours to just rivet everything in place never mind the time to cut out all the shapes, bend the bits and then get rid of all the sharp edges!

Tomorrow I will collect the M10's refurbished tub from San Francisco airport, all finished and ready to be fitted.
This has been accomplished in no small part by the every helpful and ready Jerry Entin and his wonderful contact Mil Ovan.
As ever Jerry is calling friends for favors and those who've read my posts know that without his contribution I simply couldn't have got this far, Jerry take a bow.
Mil Ovan, Jerry's old friend and shipper of cars worldwide for the rich and famous has arranged a place on a plane coming over from Heathrow. I'll pickup the tub tomorrow and post pictures as I get it and when I unwrap it, hopefully I can convince the ball and chain to let me put it back in the house!

Ian having faith that the tub would arrive back in like new condition, was very surprised when he attempted to put the steering rack in the car. The rack wouldn't line up with the hole for the steering shaft.
Ian called England and asked what he should do to fix the problem. He was told to screw off. In other words a usless tub was sent back. Costing double what he was told it would cost to rebuild it. And taking over twice as long to do as he was told.
Ian has sold this project to a fellow in New Zealand and it is now in the very capable hands of Duncan Fox. I am sure when Duncan finishes repairing the tub it will be in like new condition and then the forum members will get to see the finished project.

How very disapointing. I have read this thread through from the start today and anticipating the car on track. It would seem to be very scarey trying to get highly skilled work done on these classic racers.

Rotten luck Ian...that really is quite sad.
I hope Duncan Fox continues this thread so that we can eventually see a happy ending

G. Greenfield had a BT 23G. Tom Rust had the car hanging on his wall at his Old Sears point shop. The car was Restored and raced a Little by Greenfield then sold on.
Good luck

Hi, this is O/T . I am trying to trace Giles Greenfield with regard to a Brabham BT15 that i believe he owned and raced in the 1990's, I am told that that an extensive retoration was carried out by Tom Rust. I have spoken to Bob Yarwood who did the MAE engine, he recalls Giles was in the Seattle area and may now be retired and possibly in Colorado. Reason for posting here is that Giles is mentioned re his McLaren and I assume he is the same guy?

Duncan
I presume that both M10's in your care will be up and running by next January 2014?
Cant wait to see them.
