Hi,

When I try the 'centred' page option on the homepage using Safari (version 2.01 build 412.5) on Mac OS X 10.4.2 it does not work. A small window pops up and then nothing happens (I have Block-up Windows disabled). When trying Firefox 1.0.6 the page does correctly centre.

Hope you can help.

1) Have you got javascript disabled in Safari?
2) Have you got cookies enabled in Safari?

3) Have you tried to simply refresh the (big) page after the mini-popup opens?

I'll explain how this works, so it can help you troubleshoot it on your side:

1) When you enter a page, the server looks for a cookie on your browser called "align". If the cookie exists, the page will align to whatever the cookie says (either "center" or "left). If the cookie does not exist, the page will default to the left.

2) When you click on the "center" icon, a small popup window opens.

-- a) By clicking on it, you trigger a server-side action to place the "align" cookie with "center" in it on your browser.
-- b) Then a javascription (user-side) action is taken: to close the small popup and refresh the main page.

3) When the main page has been refreshed (reloaded), we go back to #1 above: the cookie "align" cookie is sought and, if it exists, the page aligns based on its content.

So, for this to not work, there can be only two reasons:

1) A cookie is not being placed on your computer = means the browser is blocking it.
This is a critical problem as it will simply prevent you from setting the page alignment.

2) The popup window is not closing, and the main page is not automatically reloading = means the browser isn't supporting javascript, somehow.
This is NOT a criticam problem, as you can simply do this manually: close the popup window and refresh the main page.

Hope this helps.

:) Thanks Bira for the detailed reply. When I came back this evening, the site was centred. It must have been a refreshing issue as you suggested. I do like the new layout and the increased speed (especially since I'm on ADSL2).
You can count on my subs when they are due.
