The Victory By Design series (as seen on SpeedChannel) features Alfa Romeo, Aston Martin, Ferrari, Jaguar, Maserati and Porsche. Each featured car is driven and appraised by Alain de Cadenet.
I recognize areas of California where some scenes are shot, but I'm wondering where the majority of the series is filmed. It appears to be either a private estate with its own track or some very secluded roads.
Anyone know?

Well, the track on which de Cadenet tests the Ferrari 312PB is owned by Pierre Bardinon, the car's owner. It's called Le Mas de Clos. IIRC, it's near Clermont-Ferrand, France.

Sir Anthony Bamford's, I believe...that's the private course around the pond. Mr. Nye would probably be able to confirm.

As an aside, I noticed that Speed Channel has a listing for an all-new Victory by Design scheduled to air December 19. The subject? LOTUS! Does anyone here have any additional information about this? I can't wait to get the DVD extended version.

Hope they are doing a few more, too.

I can remember when I bought the set at VSCC Donington Park, and was asked which other marques I would like to see covered - I think I said Lotus, Bugatti and Mercedes.

Any/all of those would be great :smoking: !

I think the Victory by Design dvds are available from most of the big car book sellers, and they are also available from the VbyD web site.

I read in Julian Balme's column in the new Classic & Sports Car magazine that he has recently been filming with Alain de Cadenet at Loton Park for a new Ford racing history, so it looks like this may be another marque to be included in the next batch of releases.

I have these DVDs and watch them often, and coincidentally recently emailed VBD through the website, to inquire as to whether any more programs were in the works. The full text of the response was:

"Thank you for your inquiry. At this time, we still only have the 6 DVDs'. "

That was it. You would think that, if they had a new Lotus program about to air, they would at least mention it. Thank God for this forum, or I probably would have missed the Speed channel premiere. I hope there are many more in the works, as they are very entertaining programs.

When I made my last post on this subject, I hadn't noticed a small news item also in the latest Classic & Sports Car magazine which reads: -

"...Maylam, with Alain de Cadenet, is now working on more programmes, this time on Lotus, Corvette and Ford."

I suppose the choice of marques has been driven (pun intended) by the American market.

I still hope that they will cover Bugatti (Brescia, T35/51/59 etc) and Mercedes-Benz (Blitzen Benz, W125/154/196 etc) in the future.

Speed channel showed the Lotus edition of this program last night. I only caught about 10 minutes but it looked good enough to set the video for the 1am showing...

Some shows are better than others. I thought the Porsche one was amazing with great period footage and actual knowledgable people commentating, much better than I'd expected after seeing the Alfa offering. But even the more mediocre episodes offer a selection of gorgeously filmed and recorded cars.

Btw: I think they show the filming locations (as well as the owners of the cars) at the end.

Having drawn a blank with another thread, I thought I'd pull up this one............I missed the first one in this round of showings, on Maserati, but posts in this thread show that the Ferrari episode for TV left out the 312PB.

Having spotted Loton Park and the Goodwood hill, as well as Bamford's lake near Alton Towers (presumably that's why there are so many sequences shot early in the morning or late in the evening, because of the noise), does anyone who saw last night's on Lotus know where the Cad was driving the 29?

Hopefully we'll get the Porsche episode today or tomorrow.

Brilliant series, i especially enjoyed Alain De Cadenet driving the late Larry Millers Cobra Daytona up Goodwood hill. I sat in that car at the Festival of Speed once . I won,t forget that.

It's wherever the Barber Museum is. The car was photograpghed outside it. Did you spot the howler by de Cad when he was explaining about Jimmy's accident at Hockenheim? 'Killed in practice at Hockenheim....' - oh dear.

The Barber Museum is down in Alabama. The Lotus programme brought a lump to my throat because the 29, and the 70 that briefly appeared in the introduction, both belonged to my late brother Richard, and I spent many a happy hour cleaning, pushing, and driving both cars.

'Putnam Park' was visible on a signboard on the control tower.

Yes, I saw and recognised the winged 70, and remembered Richard and his support for the FoS.

The programmes are being shown again at 8.00pm on Turbo this week, but I still don't know in what order.

Watching the Maserati one at the moment. Rather surprised to discover that Pietsch led the 1939 German GP "almost until the end" in an 8CTF and that 750cc supercharged engines were allowed in F2 in 1952-53 "although nobody bothered".

Lovely cars though.
