Marc,
Just out of curiosity, where were these Baratto prints published? I know that there are a lot of them shown on his website in very low resolution. I was thinking that they might be from the Ferrari Annuals. I believe they are available as prints from the site.
Thanks.
No Mail Package as of yesterday, by the way. Not really any way to trace it, either, is there?

They are from a German magazine I had lying around, more or less a "50 years Ferrari" issue. I'd have to dig it
up to see which issue and title it actually is.
I've been digging up a lot of stuff and scanning it, all of it filed in a "to do file".

There is plenty of stuff on Baratto's site in low res, and I hope to get some of it soon.
I have contacted Mr Baratto to come on to the forum here and have a look, and have asked him
if he would release some material for us to enjoy. Just hope he does feel like releasing some soon.

Ridiculous isn't it how two modern countries can do all kinds of stuff all over the world.
I read a report on Dutch dam-builders getting a lot of work done in the New Orleans areas which were
struck by the storms years ago, then there is the American-Dutch co-operation in Afghanistan.
Things do happen and things get done !!!...just to compare the logistics of it all...............
Yet I send you a plain letter and three weeks later you still haven't got a thing.
Postal services still dialed in to pigeon-post ?

edit and high-lighted to say maybe we should wish they still were! pigeons usually fly a direct service !

Marc,
I was so impressed with the fact that I was going to get that to do the full scan on that illustratation ... and now the government has let me down again. After so many other things that have been going on here to our disadvantage, I had still thought that the Postal System would work reliably. They have now let me down, and I had my Chinese Wife's Visa turned down, so I am not exactly a fan of any of those folks. Can't seem to get the Los Angeles school system to work, California is going broke, the country is turning into something that is not what we have had when we have been at our best ... anyone have an overseas job available???
Sorry, just venting, and apologizing for getting you to do this. From my standpoint, not sure where I am going to find a second copy of that thing. For you, I hate to have had it tossed down a big hole; sorry to have played a part in that for you.
Thanks.

I found a web site based in Russia (the lack of copyright concern in mind boggling) I believe. That for better or worse has pages and pages of cut-aways. It seems to me that they just downloaded and posted the submissions from "cutawayland", but I do believe that some are/have not been posted here. Perhaps someone more informed can take a look and see? the site is http://www.autowp.ru/cutaway/index/

Gee, Tony, I'm shocked, I tellya', just absolutely shocked.

There's someone out there stealing your stuff?

Imagine that!!

When I encounter people like that face to face the question I always want to ask...and rarely do...is: Can you pass an IQ test??????

ps:
Can you send me some hi-res jpegs of everything you've ever created? I swear they'll be just for my own personal use!!

pps:
Thanks to all who have posted such great stuff. I marvel at the skill of those who created the illustrations.

Hate to say it, but that is quite a selection of material up on that Russian site. Most of the files are larger than ones that are generally circulated, but they say nothing about the artist, and remove any name that is incorporated into the piece, unfortunately. Many of them have been here before, but is certainly will add things that we haven't had previously.
By the way, if it about 1200 files, if anyone is interested.

I have looked at cutaways which I scanned from two-page magazine publication, and can find all the tell-tale signs where
I spliced the halves and reworked the join. Yes, a lot have been downloaded from "cutawayland". The same goes for all the
cutaways on the Czech "kresby" site.

I would have used a 'world-weary' emoticon if I could think which one it was, Marc. The cutaway in question is LAT copyright, but as LAT has changed hands a couple (?) of times over the years I'm not sure if they know that or even care. The original artwork was left to fester in the old Motor Sport/Motoring News offices, I don't know if LAT had them on photgraphic file, or scanned it from the relevant issue of MS. It would not surprise me that it was just lifted by the magazine, but it may be totally legit. and paid for.

The Russian site is more worrying, and I will no longer be posting hi-res complete cutaways that are my copyright, just bits, or low-res. If they want to risk being chased by Marlboro USA, and assuming they care, so let it be.

I just lurked about the Russian site & found this, translated (via Google translator)from the original:

"Please note that all materials placed on the server autowp.ru, added to the site visitors.
The management has no information on the legality of publishing these materials.
All images are available for educational purposes. The inscription "downloaded from autowp.ru" on photographic serves to reduce the interest to download the entire site by means of special programs, which leads to overload the server. The inscription has no influence on the authorship and ownership of the right material.
Report a copyright violation."

Anyone care to comments?
Steve

Well done Steve, I didn't look as hard as you did, obviously! Not that it means much really, but at least they are aware that copyright exists. Nice to hear from you again!

Unfortunately I understand your situation all too well.

That's why I've kept my images on flickr small, Plus I just post links so I can see who's been looking at them. Easier to track down potential thieves that way.

I'm hoping that all the slides I had at Racer were returned to me when LAT bought what Racer had. I really wouldn't want to find my stuff being published somewhere under LAT's banner. They seem to have a pretty good corner on the market with the magazines and as a result I don't get as much stuff published as I might otherwise.

It's frustrating in the extreme to come up against people who have no scruples. The Russians, and others like them, are the poster kids for what is all too common these days....if it can be seen it then why shouldn't they steal it.

I sure wish that karmic revenge was more of a concrete reality.

Sorry, that does not give the name of the artist. Both scans are made from the cover of the book "Classic Racing Cars" by Cyril Posthumus, Hamlyn Pub. (1977, ISBN 0600319091). Unfortunately within the text there is no indication of authorship

Hi Tony I was at small garage today that specialise in American cars and on the wall of the owners office was a print of one of your drawings "Galmer G92 Valvoline Racing Chevrolet Indy Car". You completed it in 1992.
The bad news is it has faded terribly the good news is the guy liked it so had it framed and placed on the wall, he also has others at home which he will try to find for me.

Hi Stuart, unless - as you know - some effort is made to use lightfast inks these prints will never cope with constant exposure to light, especially with a UV content. The Galmer, which I posted here some while back, was never meant to be archival quality, and eighteen years is a fair time!

Hi Tony,
yes strong sunlight always the problem, I just thought it great that the guy when asked "Why do you have that on the wall amongs all the muscle cars?" replied "Because I like it". He was impressed when I started the conversation by telling him, from a distance of 20 feet, "Thats a Tony Matthews painting"!

I see you're trying to add fuel to the blood pressure fire.

Methinks you're misunderestimating the amount of chronological capacities involved in a "little look".

I'm sure that's somewhat akin to pleading a small amount of pregnantness.

I think you are misunderestimating a simple English colloquialism, Marc, but as I have managed to shut my thumb in my van door (why do I keep thinking of it as vin d'or?) I have lost all interest in having a little look... As for the pregnancy, it is in a state of pause.

Thank you for giving me another twisted idea....pausing a pregnancy versus a pregnant pause. Indeed.

As for your thumb, try soaking it in cider...say the last two words quickly...not some wine made of gold.

I can relate to your vicissitudes vicariously, although lately I've managed to get all my appendages outta the way before the door closes, my keys still get locked inside.

Precocious senility is not a pretty thing.

I don't know if any of you have checked out that Russian site, but there is a hell of a lot of stuff there. Much of it is the same as what we have been sharing here, but there are some interesting additional items there, and some larger versions on a lot of the illustrations. Much of the stuff in there is not just the classic stuff that has been discussed as "pirated" here, but it appears to be material out of sales brochures for various companies, and includes many pieces from the last few years ... after the market dried up. Seems like some recognizable artwork, but I am not exactly sure who would be the artist on much of it. I have gone though about 2/3 of it thus far, and it has added or improved many pieces in my file. You may want to take a look at it ... since it isn't going anywhere anyway.
Also, I am not sure what the Kresby site is supposed to be for cutaways. How do you get through the thing and find them? The Czech has me blocked a bit there. There is some interesting artwork there, but nothing that I can see on Cutaways ... but I may be missing something.
I am also writing this because I can't believe we have been sitting on the last note for so long. We are trying to get over to that 150th page, so let's move it along, folks ...
Nothing to see here ...
Well, there is, but let's add to it, shall we?

Thanks for being such a wonderful resource, guys. This has been one of my most often visited sites since I first came on it last fall.

Of course Tom,
I've been a bit busy with things recently, just need to pick up the pace again.

Scroll all the way down for the cutaways, nothing new though, they were all raided from cutawayland

This scan was sent me by fellow TNFer Roger Lund AKA Bradbury West
It is Bill Bennett's rendering of the Felday 4 published in Motoring News

Marc, I only get a red cross in a box. Any chance of reposting the 540K, or e mailing it direct?
