Hiho, fellas! :)

FYI:

This thread started in 2006 but didn't really take wing til our Tony Matthews joined us in September, 2008. Since then, we've been bombarded with glorious cutaways from him and others. I dedicated a folder in my pictures section to most of the offerings in the thread and as of today, it contains fully 233 images. Thank you so much.

I haven't bothered starting to count because I still have a ton of paper in the loft to dig through. Started exchanging stuff with cutaway friend Anders Bonde by mail years ago, as I do now with
Ibsen.
TM joining us has made our day of course !!, and am looking forward to him starting his tips and hints on how to.....
Hope you may have a couple of scans to treat us to Manfred, as I have been told to take it easy for a bit.
Anyway I am too busy touching up all the stuff I found in the loft during my last diggings.

...our Tony Matthews...

Manfred, I was initially embarrassed to see myself refered to as 'our TM', but many thanks to you and all the others who have welcomed me to the forum. I am only one illustrator out of tens of thousands World wide, and I have no illusions about my talent or ability - I only have to look at the work done for 'Flight' magazine to realise that I had a long way to go. I think the difference is that I was only really inspired to illustrate subjects that grabbed me, and that happened to be interesting, exciting machinery, namely raceing cars and engines. If I had worked for Hoover or Zannusi you would not be seeing my work here. The point is that we have a shared interest, and although we hardly ever meet face to face I have made the aquaintance of a lot of nice, intertesting, generous-hearted enthusiasts, and although the chances of me ever illustrating again are 99.9% against, you have made me feel that it was worthwhile.

And speaking of washing machines, I now have to nip out and buy a new one, as ours has developed the habit of filling up overnight, and I don't think it is worth the time and effort to sort it.

Just found the programme from the 28th May 1977 Donington Park Race - was that the "first" event there?
Anyway, the inside back cover is "Cutaway Drawing of the New JPS MK III" and it's in portrait style for some reason!!
I can't see any name on the drawing and size-wise it's typical '70s programme size but the programme is a bit rough round the edges.
Am I allowed to scan it and post it?

Mick, like many people I too had a sudden failure with Imageshack, after using it for some period. Try this hosting option. One of the TNFers directed me to it. It is pretty straightforward.
http://www.postimage.org/
or try post 351 on here for the redoubtable Ray Bell's idiots' guide to Imageshack, which may refer to the earlier version of Imageshack.

Your work is our pleasure, believe you me, and yes, you are 'ours', TM. Just see what happens to anyone who tries to pirate you away! :)

BTW, I neglected to mention in my previous post re the 233...now 235...images that I named the folder, 'Tony Matthews et al'. Double :)

To give you an idea of how it should look in your post when correctly formatted, find a post with a picture in it (eg Duc-Man's post 1562 above or, for an Imageshack-hosted pic, Ibsenop's post 1560) and click on the 'Reply' button at the bottom right of the post. As Macoran says, when using Imageshack just copy and paste one of the links directly into your post.

I never thought I'd see a cutaway more 'nibbled' than Jim Allington's but, as I live and breath, here it is! I mean this in the nicest possible way, but it does look as though it has spent several decades on the sea-bed.

So, two cutaways of the Ford Mk IV, any more out there?

What do you exactly mean by nibbled Tony? the teethmark bites out of the outer layer to show innards ?

Ferrari Windtunnel

from De Agostini publications “Ferrari la Passion”
The only credits given to artists is in the colofon on the front inside cover page .
Under drawing credits, the following names are listed:
Silivana Ghioni, Alberto Ipsilanti, Jimmy Rubin and Marco Vinelli.
So one of them is the artist of the above rendering.

That's nice!. First time I've seen it in colour, obviously I saw the original, B&W version, and I was responsible, I think, for shading the tyres. I certainly worked on the Ferrari P4, and possibly did the tyres on the Porsche 910, too, I'd have to look at them to know for sure. Jim did most of the work on the set of four in France, at his parents-in-laws' converted mill not too far from Le Mans, and then he finished them back at the studio with some help from moi.

First time I've seen B. Betti's T78 as well, more interesting than my version, I was working to a very tight deadline - for not much money - and was under strict instructions not to show anything of interest! I wanted to do a better version later, but it didn't happen, same with the T79, but that, as you know, dear reader, remains un-finished.

The wind tunnel looks interesting, more compact, or at least it looks smaller, than the Benetton tunnel that I drew. It's always a surprise, first time you enter what looks like quite a bland building, to find so much large machinery crammed inside! The only quibble I have is the stairs, I don't like to see them cut off before they reach their destination, it looks wrong to me. And dangerous!

Well, that's what I mean, Marc, it looks like it's been attacked with a can-opener. It is all down to personal taste, and as I have said before, I grew up with Jim Allingtons style, which was a bit 'nibbled' but changed my style to a less-'nibbled' style, but still obviously 'cut'. If some people prefer the 'nibbled' look that's fine by me.

What I meant by several decades on the sea bed is that when you see underwater film of sunken ships, or Japanese fighters in the sea around the islands that saw action in the Pacific War, they all look extremely ' nibbled'!

I would hunch Bruno. I think his brother only signed with G Betti never his full first name.

BTW that was some car ! You could come snorting out of a corner as if it was a much smaller sports job. The steering
was really responsive, partially to good grippy front end, you could really hook the corners.
