Wouldn't you agree this was the forefather of all the later day GT/GTI type sedans ?

The drawing is signed, it looks like we could have added a new artist to our list if the signature had been legible.
Any ideas ? who has seen work by this signature before ?

I haven't seen that before Macoran, but we can certainly keep an eye out for it, it is certainly distinct enough! As a very, very wild guess, to me it looks a little like Trevor Hirts, but I'm sure a more acutely trained eye can decipher the signature to a greater degree of accuracy.

It is a wonderful little cutaway though. The artist has even attempted a little faux 'Walnut' !

The drawing is signed, it looks like we could have added a new artist to our list if the signature had been legible.
Any ideas ? who has seen work by this signature before ?

Citroën "in house" cutaway.
Posted Image

There was a cutaway like this for every main technical aspect of the car.
..Drivetrain
..Hydro/pneumatic suspension
..Hydro/pneumatic braking system
..Hydraulic gearchange
..Heating and Ventilation
..Body assembly details
They were all published as A1 wall posters.
I still have them from my apprenticeship period. edit....they are therefore something like 50 years old !

A montage from the Vauxhall design department. 1971 Vauxhall Firenza 2000 SL. Bizarrely it has ended up looking like a painting by Pieter Brueghel the Elder. I like it though.

The Ferrari looks like it is from the Japanese AUTO SPORT rather than the English Autosport Roger.

Marc, the caption indicates Auto Sport and the artist is listed under the deleted title caption as Takeshi Hosokawa, but certainly scanned from UK Autosport 1970/71 as I was looking for something else

A montage from the Vauxhall design department. 1971 Vauxhall Firenza 2000 SL. Bizarrely it has ended up looking like a painting by Pieter Brueghel the Elder. I like it though.

Never liked the car parked crossways in the road. Always looks like the car lost control in a turn and stalled.

You don't want to stall when The Mad Lumberjack's on the prowl... and never go back for your hard-boiled eggs!

I know Tony, you have to forgive me that indulgence. I think I need to develop an equation, Mark... A cross-section + An illustration ≠ Cutaway :) My enthusiasm for painting (especially the painting of textures) gets the better of me sometimes.

To restore balance.

The drawing is signed, it looks like we could have added a new artist to our list if the signature had been legible.
Any ideas ? who has seen work by this signature before ?

The drawing is signed by Bruno Nestola, without doubt one of the most talented Italian illustrators and journalists of 60's and 70's, director for years of the iconic "Auto Italiana" weekly and mentor of Giorgio Piola as he mentioned in one interview."...The only one aid I had came from a colleague who was fantastic Bruno Nestola, (Unfortunately he is not longer with us), who was the director of "Auto Italiana " and drew very, very well. In that kind of drawings I immodestly consider the one that was more talented than me."·
His large quickly-made vivid free-hand sketches of new protos and cutaways were and still are, IMO, second to none.

I feel sure that I would not live long enough to now start and complete this topic - so I will simply ask the lifers who have lived through this thread : Is there a point where Kimble's front and back cutaways of the Chaparal are discussed. I have seen the poster and it's an OMIGOD....

I like these two very much. These to me are sort of like Cut-away lites. Very simplistic, almost sparse. But in a way, whether intentional or not, that seems to suit the very angular 60's/70's Sports Cars shapes (Delta-wings). It doesn't work at all with the more classically styled bodies, like the Morgan or the E-Type even on page 119.

However, I describe them as cutaway 'lites' because obviously in terms of information, they are 'mean' however aesthetically, they are accidentally great, and will therefore enter my favourites folder! In the section entitled 'Starters' ahead of the main course!

Here is something that I never imagined could exist, a cutaway of an Austin Allegro :) How common were these in Italy?

I'll tell you somethimg else !! There is actually another one by Brian Hatton......I never wanted to scan it
because I thought who in blazes would want a cutaway of an Allegro. I'll find it....hopefully the semi-square steering
wheel will be better highlighted!!!
I found it to be as ridiculous a car design as the AMC Pacer!

edit....good thing BMC/BLMC/Leyland or what they were called then didn't produce Morris/Riley/Wolseley versions, that would
have really made them the laughing stock of the UK automotive industry when they were already barrelling downhill.

Yes, you should definitely contribute it Macoran, just in the name of adding to the variation. I have a couple of cutaways of similar abominations, such as the Montego! and the Talbot Matra Rancho

It is a shame though regarding Leyland, they definitely have a certain charm about them. My Grandfather at one time had the Austin Allegro, the exact colour as above. Never in a million years would I have expected it to one day be committed to the realm of 'Cutaway', beyond anything that would perhaps appear in a manual.
