I'll visit Retromobile some week day to avoid the rush. Maybe Thursday afternoon or Friday morning. If someone want to share a cuppa and a chat (providing he bears with my terrible french accent), please PM me ;)

Incidentally, talking of things French, the annual Le Touquet bike enduro takes place next weekend (3/4th Feb). Racing alond the sandy beach Dakar-style, hundreds of quads on Saturday and even more bikes on the Sunday. OK hardly TNF material but a great day out, especially as P&O will take you across the channel for £20 (car +4) at this time of the year....

Hi - I am going to the Retromobile, Paris next week. Perhaps anyone can help with a hint, what to see else in Paris? Is there any automobil-museum or any collection worth to see?
Alfred,
At Champs Elysee there are 2-3 showrooms of Peugeot,Citroen and Renault..They have mostly something special on show...and are open til late evenings..
If you have never been there: Tour Eiffel, gigantic metal construction, impressive...and if you are interested in art:no shortage here
To the best of my knowledge there are no automuseums (at least open to the public) in Paris..Some very old cars in the Musee Arts et Metier!!(and the Ur-Meter,for the German speaker)
So enjoy!!Michael

The main transport museum closed some time ago.
There's the Musée des arts et métiers, it is the technical museum (Musée national des techniques) which has the Cugnot steam car and apparently some other early cars upto Model-T Ford.
The Musée National de la Voiture et du Tourisme is in Compiegne (in the Chateau de Compiegne) and has Jenatzy's Jamais Contente and many other early transport items, but it is 40km or so outside Paris

The Cugnot is displayed separately from the other vehicles.
In the main section there are quite a few important early vehicles plus this Renault RE30

Thanks for those, Wouter. Excellent as usual. I was somewhat surprised to see the 1907 Panhard, owned by the Walker family for donkey's years, up for sale on Gregor Fisken's standHere is our full report from the show, illustrated by a 170-shot gallery:
