These two 1968 photos shows Vila real, Portugal, circuit before the races started. Taken by Dave Sullivan when he was mechanic for John Raeburn's Ford GT40.
Now imagine a clutch of current F1 cars diving into the corners. You can't? Neither can I.
Vila Real 1968 was a non-Tilke circuit

Yes, Terry, a REAL race circuit to go along with Pescara, Ospedaletti, Chimay, Genoa....

If the Italian Government had been less parsimonious, and had accepted Hermann Tilke's quote for making the entire length of the Mille Miglia route completely safe, with barriers and big run-off areas on all the corners, it would still be running today.

Wonderful shots. Any chance of any more of the actual racing -particularly the F3?

Looks like Ronnie in no 40. I believe he raced in F3 there in 1967 ( His 1st International Race outside Sweden ) and 1968 according to Alan Henrys 1975 ( revised 1978 ) biography

This photo of Ronnie was from 1968. Retired after 9 laps with final drive problems:

There are races there again, although it was cancelled due to the crisis and some problems with organization this year and I don't know if there will be in 2012 again.
The circuit was reduced and security facilities where improved. But I think it retained some of his challenges
