In his latest Q&A's NR was asked about Giacomo Agostini racing at San Marino for Williams in 1982. Being in the Barcelona press room Roebuck couldn't check, but am I right in thinking that the questioner could be confusing the 1982 GP with the GP Dino Ferrari, held at Imola in September 1979?

Giacomo Agostini retired from motorcycle racing after the 1977 season. But he then raced in the Aurora Formula One series in 1979-80, with several podium results and a best of second at Snetterton on 20th May 1979.

In that time, Team Agostini Marlboro and the Williams FW06 also raced in two non-championship ‘grands prix’. These were the Race of Champions, at Brands Hatch on 15th April 1979; and the Gran Premio Dino Ferrari, at Imola on 16th September 1979. Agostini was 11th in the first of these, and tenth in the second. The Williams team was not entered for either of these races.

In 1982, Agostini had already started running the Marlboro Yamaha 500cc GP team, and was no longer racing. The Williams team were not at Imola that year, because of the well-publicised FISA-FOCA dispute...

I hope that answers the question.

I wouldn't like to get wrong here, but...

Was not the '83 season, that one when Kenny Roberts and Eddie Lawson shared the Ago-Marlboro Team, the wild Kenny-Spencer fight by the title, the first time Agostini managed the Works Yamaha Team?

All of the above is correct, apart from “the '83 season ... the first time”.

‘The Marlboro Yamaha team came into existence at the end of 1981, after an approach by 15-time world champion Giacomo Agostini to Marlboro president Alleardo Buzzi, at the cigarette company’s European headquarters in Lausanne. Within a year, Team Marlboro Agostini had become the official Yamaha factory team.’
· from the Kimberley team guide, by Michael Scott, published in 1986.

It wasn’t the works team in 1982, but Agostini ran Graeme Crosby and Graziano Rossi that year.
