As a counterpoint to the "Jack" and "Frank" threads, how about trying to identify first names which are unique in motor racing?

I'd like to offer "Eppie" (as in Wietzes) as a candidate.

And maybe "Moises" (as in Solana)?

For added interest, let's include nicknames too, but only where the person was actually addressed by that name, e.g. "Keke" (Rosberg) would count, but "El Chueco" (for Fangio) wouldn't.

David.

Only one "Masten" comes to mind.
If nicknames or derivatives count, how about "Parnelli"?

Cheating a bit, nowt to with motor racing and a fictional character anyway, but I always liked the name Student Mansfield, who appeared in Kingsley Amis's "I Want It Now". He was so-called because his father reckoned that, for that particular child, life would be one long learning curve.

Rubens ( Barrichello )
Luciano ( Burti )
Renee ( Arnoux )
Jose ( Dolhen )
Brett ( Lunger )

I think that it would have been easier ( perhaps even more interesting ) to talk about NOT unique first names ;)

for example: David ( Purley, Coulthard ) or Jacques ( Laffite, Villeneuve )

Charlemagne (Tower) !!!

Looking thru the results of Mille Miglia or Targa Florio gives not so few beautiful names, my personal favourite is "Secondo". Surely not a winner.

Raul (because of Riganti)
Vic (Blackburn)
Ivan (Scotti)
Bruce (McLean)
Brett (Riley)
Hubert (Hahne)
Elliot (Forbes-Robinson)

Stanley (Jones - and Alan Stanley Jones)
There have also been scores of Joses

Nelson (Piquet)
Jenson (Button)
Innes (Ireland)
Norberto (Fontana)

And should we open the Pandora's box of Japanese names and consider Aguri (Suzuki), Takuma (Sato), Satoru (Nakajima), Tetsu (Ikuzawa) and many more?

As reported by Raymond Baxter at the time on film, Mr Moss said of himself once, at a time when he was doing over 60 races per year :-

" A stationary Moss gathers no Sterling "
