I just thought about how much I enjoy threads like Bob Anderson , Jack Lewis or J.P.Beltoise...
But where do I ask about , Brian Gubby, Ian Raby ,Bernard Collomb or other minor F1 racers/entrants. So I thought .....like the Idea?

Near the top of every page is a little box saying "Search BB"
Hit that, enter "Brian Gubby" (for example) and all your prayers are answered

A lot about Brian Gubby I found ,very good . Now for another one Ian Raby! I know he is mentioned here and there ,but not by much ,and no pictures. Here is what I know: Ian drove F3/500 , sports , F2/1500,FJ,F2/1600 and bought JB first car thre Brabham BT3. His cars were red with white nose , but the BT3 blue with white and red band around nose and white stripe front to rear and white wheels. Nickname "Puddle Jumper"? Regards Bjørn

Ian later drove a Gilby which, I believe, was dark blue with a white nose.

Sports Motors Manchester, this was a Garage in the city centre started, if I remember correctly, by two men named Graveley and Bloor. Rodney Bloor, the son of one the founderswas an extremely effective driver of, to start with, an A35. From there he had an Elite and after that a 23. One of the features of early saloon car racing at Oulton in particular were the closely fought duels between Rod and Harry Ratcliffe (Minor 1000) who was a textile engineer from Littleborough and was involved with Jeff Goodwin. Harry went on to be part of British Vita Racing. Sports Motors preparation whiz was Denis Wolstenholme

Ian Raby was a car dealer from Brighton. There were two Ian Rabys, father and son, and the son continued to run Ian Raby Racing after his father's death in 1967. Raby Snr drove all sorts of machinery in the 1950s and 1960s but mainly at national level. Raby Jnr now lives in Spain but was at Mallory Park last month for the Formula Junior event.

BMW dealer on the main road south out of Birmingham (before the M42 was built). Stratford Road? The garage was still there last time I went past.

Returning to 'Sports Motors Manchester' for just a moment... I remember them best as entrant of a Brabham BT28 (in F3) for the front-running Tim Schenken (when colours were predominantly red, I think).

I always remember their cars in blue. When asked by a young lady what it was like driving an A35 at the speeds then prevalent (cross ply tires et al) Rod replied "like walking a tightrope in ice skates"

According to Graham Gauld's book on Tojeiro, John Ogier was an Essex farmer at Rough Hill Farm near Chelmsford. Apparently he is credited (if that is the right term !) with introducing battery chicken farming to the UK, having seen it in the USA. He had been an officer in the Tank Corps in the war and was "quite a forceful character". He competed with a Jaguar XK120 before coming involved with Tojeiro. He had a big crash at Stapleford hill climb and, I think, gave up driving and became an entrant thereafter. The Essex Racing Team ran F2 Coopers as well as Aston Martins.

David ,you have earlier been kind enough to advise me about the search here. I believe I have done that as well as on the internet. So far nothing has popped up . I know the name from my youth(Autosport magazines- which I dont have anymore). AND from a picture from the Easter meeting at Goodwood in 1961 showing Major Ian Bailie unloading his ex works DBR1 which at this meeting was driven by Peter Jopp. I also seem to recall the nam from a few results from the WSPR site. Thats it. But should you know that the TNF has something, then tell me , cause then I havent done the job properly. I can also say to all readers on this small thread that I will later offer a written compendium with what i have got or found and with your help put together to answer some of my qs on this thread
