I am looking for any information on Sherwood Johnston's F5000 race history. He ran a Lola T142 in 1969. His first race appears to be the Continental Divide Race in Colorado on June 8, 1969. Does anyone know who prepared his car? Any knowledge of the color of the car? His early 1950's race history is better documented but there is little information on his F5000 racing. Did he race in 1970 or later? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I didn't respond to this because I thought Allen Brown would...if you go to the following:
http://www.oldracing...f5000/races.asp
and go through the "US 1969" and "US 1970" races, you'll find he did a number of races. In 1969, he drove a Lola and in 1970, a Surtees. I remember being quite excited to see him at Seattle because I'd read about him the '50's. I THINK the Lola was yellow, but I'm not sure.
In one race in the '70's, the entrant is listed as "J & B Racing, Phoenix, Arizona". The 1969 Seattle results in the local paper listed him as being from Scottsdale, Arizona.

Hello
Didn't spot this but I have responded to its identical sister thread on 10 Tenths.
It was white, according to the Seattle entry list.

Article on Sherwood in Vintage Motorsport May/June 1996 has a photo (b&w sadly) of the car at Lime Rock.
He stopped racing in 1970, according to this article (says it was at Laguna Seca) when "his eyes wouldn't focus quickly enough between the raod and the gauges"

You may know this already, but according to the Briggs Cunningham website, Sherwood Johnston passed away in 2000.

Also, the Watkins Glen Library magazine says that Larry Berman, the same man who compiled the info on the Briggs Cunningham site, has compiled a set of results for Johnston and donated them to the Library. Ask Mark Steigerwald (mark at racingarchives dot org) or Bill Green (research at racingarchives dot org) at the library.
