Scenario: Assuming that MS does *not* retire, if JV does not get a seat for 2007, that means the season will start with but two world champions or former champions on the grid.
Scenario: If JV fails to land a drive, *and* MS retires, the season will start with but one driver who has won the world championship: FA.
Have there ever been similar scenarios, excepting the first few years of the postwar championship?

Ayrton Senna was the only World Champion on the grid in 1992.

Well done, Tim. I thought we'd had a previous thread on this topic, but try as I might I couldn't find it - I "Search BB'ed" (is that a verb?) for threads with the words "least", "fewest" and "most" in the title - didn't thinking of looking for "one" !

Thanks, David.
I looked for all threads with the words 'World Champion' in their titles. Fortunately, there were only about half a dozen of them. However, I've got a feeling that there is another thread on the subject lurking in the archives, which my search didn't uncover.
