We have covered this site before, but looking at something else on it I thought the "colourised" link might be interesting;
http://www.stilltime...Colourised.html

I have often wondered if Albert Kahn had any colour or coloured shots in his collection as there is a French WW1 site with coloured images, similar period.

Interesting that in 2008, McLaren were promoting 40 years of their existence, whilst in 2013 they are proclaiming their 50th.

Edit - probably 40 years since the first win

Unquestionably 'paddock' shots, kento, but probably more the "Personal photos from historic festivals" thread.

Checking on racingsportscars.com I found these results:

April 19. 1964 Aintree 200: 1st win with the own team in the Zerex Special.
April 11. 1965 Preis von Wien in Aspern: 1st win of a McLaren chassis (M1A-20-01) with Charles Vögele driving.
May 15. 1965 Silverstone International: 1st win for Bruce McLaren in his own team with his own car.

Some people should check their records for dates when they want to celebrate their anniversary.

Ahem....

"McLaren: legendary Formula One constructors McLaren celebrate 40 years of Grand Prix victories in 2008, and Goodwood will mark this achievement with an exciting display of significant McLaren race cars, including the championship-winning machines of Emerson Fittipaldi, Niki Lauda, Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna."

Or to put it another way:
11 Jan 1964: first win by own team in Tasman Cooper (NZ GP)
11 Oct 1964: first win by a McLaren (Riverside GP)
11 Oct 1964: first win by Bruce McLaren in his own team with his own car (Riverside GP)

At risk of dragging this OT further, David, but wasnt the Cooper that Bruce used for the AGP in WA (November 1962) and then the Jan-Feb 1963 NZ and Australian races (careful not to say Tasman!) run by Mclaren's own team (with Wally Willmott front and centre -see Wally's thread)? That car won the 1962 AGP and I have always understood that to have been the first race win for the McLaren team.

That's what I should have said...1968 first Grand Prix win. Sorry

I ruled out that year's effort Rob because I don't think that the car was entered by Bruce McLaren Motor Racing Ltd. That name first appeared on the 1964 Tasman entries (whose cars were of course built in 1963)

No need for a mea culpa....I thought you clarified it in your edit of your original post.

I was responding to Duc-Man's rather ironic final comment.

Thanks

Dragging this back on thread, could anyone help out with an ID of this Cooper which I saw in the paddock at the GP meeting in 1983:

There's only one car on the entry list in the programme which fits, and that's Rob Grant's Cooper T43, capacity given as 2200. It might of course have been an unlisted late entry.

A couple of photos of the Abbott F3 car, IIRC this was the first time it appeared at a circuit. It was very narrow and painted a delicate shade of metallic lilac...

Some pictures of Mike Butterfield's "Ferrari style" rebodied Triumph TR? in 1964. We took it to Snetterton where, on the warm-up lap, a stone went in the air intake and got stuck in the Webbers, caused them to flood, which resulted in the engine bay catching fire as it exited Coram. He pulled in to the end of the pit lane and I ran half the length of the pits with an extinguisher and had it spraying before the marshalls had finished reading the instructions! They're a lot better than that nowadays.

Robin Kimber's Austin Ulster the day before he horrified William Boddy by taking Woodcote on two wheels lap after lap while racing at the club circuit at Silverstone, the comment in the following month's Motor Sport was something along the lines of historic cars should not be driven by hooligans...

Bit late, post 4924, the Kimber Ulster. Suspect it  was the Ulster I subsequenty owned, that name and personal pic details tend to confirm. Mr Blogg - please do you have any other info? Happily, if it's one & the same, it's still alive in Somerset!

thanks, my daughter still follow F-1 but with 2 small kids and a teaching job doesn't have much time. I thought that they misread the assembly direction for the Ferrari.

Just a thought, but would some of these pics sit more easily in the Historic Racing thread, or detail shots in the Photographers' Thread? The 'Personal Photos...' threads tended to feature period photos at the outset

A lot of the early photos have gone AWOL however there were some from Goodwood and other 'historic' meetings in amongst the 'old snaps.'

I am intrigued by the discussion of the 1st McLaren sportscar win and would like to add my thoughts.

Bruce was one of the early aces at Mosport, and always ran near the front there. In June 1964 I saw him win with the much modified Xerox Special, diplomatically named a Cooper-Oldsmobile. In Sept of the same year he debuted the  McLaren M1 at the Canadian Grand Prix. He dominated much of the race, but pitted for throttle linkage problems, handing the win to Pedro Rodriguez's Ferrari. This same car appeared a few weeks later at Riverside Oct 11, but did not win. Parnelli Jones won in the Cooper-Ford (King Cobra) while Bruce dnf with a burst hose. The Shelby Coopers also won at Laguna Seca the following week.

This puts the 1st  win for the M1 into spring 1965. Looking at results lists and referencing Eoin Young's McLaren Memories, I conclude that the 1st win was by Charles Vogele in a customer  McLaren-Elva as stated by Duc-Man The first of many McLaren team victories would be at Silverstone 15 May 1965, where Bruce won over Surtees's Lola-Chevrolet. This victory is rather downplayed by Young, considering it was the first team win in a car with McLaren on the nose, perhaps this is because of the earlier Vogele victory, or because a win was inevitable once teething problems were dealt with.
