I don't know about the car but the seller is none other than Mike Gue, a UK dealer many, many years ago.

Is that the Mike Gue who went over to the USA and got deeply involved with sports car racing (IMSA, ALMS, GA etc?) - very good team manager and his son James is quite a quick driver!

It is indeed Mike Gue and the car has little left of an original Brabham BT15...

It certainly doesn't look like a Brabham to me, and that chassis plate looks very homemade. My guess is that it was a homebuilt Monoposto car, albeit nicely constructed. I think Mike Gue has priced it sensibly. It's not worth Brabham money, but it would make a nice historic racer in its own right.

Quite possibly an original Brabham frame underneath and the chassis plate - clearly a later addition - could reflect the AM number. Add in some possibly original Brabham running gear and it could be worth the price.

Excellent idea!

Where's Ted, he'll tell you what to look out for. Or Bryan? Trying to find a AM number on the rear of the frame is an obvious one but there are proper Brabham experts around here who know much more than me.

Those wide-based top front wishbones are quite different to the ones on a BT15/18/21, which all had similar suspension. I don't recall a Brabham with the master cylinders and steering rack behind the front bulkhead either.

Those rear uprights do look familiar, though, and I keep returning to my original thought - Monoposto. I had a close look at many of the Monoposto cars in the seventies, and the engine would be correct for that type of car. Maybe I'll ask Alan Baillie next time I see him.

The Brabhams that had wide-based top front wishbones were the F1s from the BT3 to the BT37...........and of course the Pearce-Martin:

......so the car for sale must be the long-lost 1.5-litre Pearce!

I'm almost certain that I know this car !
It is - if I'm correct - a Brabham 'clone' built by Northern Ireland club racer Ross Raymond in the late sixties for the now defunct Kirkistown 'Club Specials' formula which was, in many ways, similar to Monoposto.
I spoke to Mike Gue yesterday, and he tells me that a mechanics name is on the side of the top body section. The name in question is that of Harry Bingham (now no longer with us) who lived in the same area as Raymond and worked on a number of 'specials' during the sixties - raced too I think.
In the early eighties the car was being touted around as a 'real' Brabham but nobody in this part of the world was interested. IIRC the gentleman who had it then moved a number of cars between the US and UK - mostly MGs - at that time, and I suspect this 'Brabham' ended up as part of some deal or other.
I don't believe it ever raced !
Oh....And there's a sister car somewhere too........

Coogar; would that gentleman have been Will Corey?

I sent an email to Mike Gue with a link to this site. He responded this morning and has added the information to the listing that you state above.

Blimey, you can tell it's really Mike Gue. Not all owners would have been honourable enough to add all that info to the auction.

Indeed - I bought several things from him in the seventies, and always found him to be very fair.

Did anyone think to tell Mike Gue to start posting here?

Take your point about the master cylinders, Cirrus. No Brabham ever had them like that... in fact, I think the chassis top extends one bay forward of where Brabhams usually ended.

David, this is not about the Brabham clone, but a reminder about the Westwood Reunion #2 to be held again at LaFarge Lake, on Pinetree Way Coquitlam (opposite Douglas College). Sunday Sept. 10 from about 10 am till 2 pm. A chance to meet and greet Westwood oldtimers - drivers, crew, workers, spectators etc. Bring your photos and memories. This event is part of the "Sunday in the Park" festival organized by the Pinetree Community Cenre (Pam Ruthreford, whose paents [Horton] were early members of the SCCBC and raced there also.)

Some race cars will be on display and there is a pancake breadfast available. Refreshments are also close by.

Some of your VRCBC friends will be out. The Langley Cruise in is on the Sat. so try and make it out.
Please spread the word!

Cheers, Robert Barg

I know this thread is from quite some time ago, but I thought you might be interested in where the topic of discussion ended. Or at least where the saga continues !

I obtained the car from a gentleman in Wisconsin, USA, who had previously purchased it from an estate sale. I have been in contact with Mr.Gue, but he had limited recollection of the car.  I also have tried to do further research on my own, but so far have come up empty handed.

It is a neat little car, and while I doubt it is an authentic Brabham, it does have a BT21 upper body section and somewhat similar chassis design and dimensions to a BT21, but that's where it appears to end.

Any other info provided would be greatly appreciated. I'll post a pic soon.

Glad to hear it has found a good home. Old race cars never die!
