In 79 I went to England and met up with him in a restaurant that his mother owned in SoHo. Can't remember what he raced that year. I remember reading that he finished 2nd in an F2 race at the Nurburg Ring one year.
Anyone know Val - is he vintage racing ?

The restaurant is still there in Soho, 'Il Cucciolo'. Don't know if it's still in the family though.
I think he still has his stunt management company too.

Ensign, I think you should! Maybe Graham MacBeth could contribute something on Alonso's loss of power in 'The Tempest' and the poor performance of the Beatrice in 'Much Ado About Nothing'. What do you think?

I enjoyed seeing Val race at Brands in the 1970s, Royales, Marches etc.

Was it a full moon last night? Anyway, my son and I watched a re-run of An American Werewolf in London and, in the final credits, I noticed Val Musetti named among the stuntmen. I didn't recognise him as the werewolf so guess he must have been involved, for example, in the gruesome/hilarious pile-up in Piccadilly Circus (?) at the very end - saloons, though, no single seaters, and the occasional bus.

Watch old episodes of "The Sweeny" on ITV4, and I'm sure his name comes up in the credits quite often.

Was a Full Moon last night, I was at Ewood... And, no I don't think Val ever finshed 2nd in a Ring F2 race. He did such a race, a non-championship affair early in 1976. He did finish as I recall, in one of his March 74B/742/75Bs, but well down the field I think.

Thats the one Alan. I fear Val found the step-up from dominating 'British Open' Libre races in early 76, to the 'Ring, a little too much. The sheer variety of cars at that race is superb isn't it?

PS. What, and where, is Ewood??

A lot of DNAs, Dan. I see Bobby Muir was entered in the Minos M1, but did not appear. Wasn't this based on the previous year's FAt Birrana, but failed to live up to Bob and Marj Brown's expectations?

Yes and yes Alan, they went to see Derek Bennett soon after this race, and got a proper car. Ewood is football...

It may have been that he qualified 2nd or on the 2nd row? I distinctly remember seeing this in an Autosport, which I can no longer find. That Mosport F1 race that I attended with him was 1977 (last F1 race at Mosport) and he borrowed a motorhome from the film set of the New Avengers for use at the track. This visit with him came about because my ex worked on that same series in Toronto. She had mentioned to him that I was a "saloon car" driver. It was a good weekend
I also observed that Val was no slouch in the "ladies man" dept.at the track.

Val qualified 13th, 8.06.6, so it can't be that.
However, he was using a distinctly tired car, based originally on a March 723.
I talked to him earlier this year - I'm trying to trace the convoluted history of said March, which may now be under what's been claimed as a March 712 - and will probably do so again in the next month. I'll alert him to the interest in his doings, it would be good to have him contribute some memories of what was a long and varied racing career.

It'd be great to hear from Val, Chris, if you can get him on here. He used some good cars in the 70s, and was a pretty useful driver at British National level. Bet he has some good stories!
Quick bump of this. Any current contact or info on Val? We hung out a lot in the early 70s in FF and F3 days. I remember a few very liquid nights at the restaurant in Soho.
