A forerunner to the FIA World Sportscar Championship races in the late '60's, Brands Hatch held a 500 mile race sponsored by the company Ilford Films. This was a rare treat to see cars racing for this length of time and enabled me to spend time at every vantage point around the circuit. Memories from the day were of Innes Ireland in a Ford GT entered by F.English (Bournemouth) Ltd and Roger Enever who finished very high up the results in a near standard Black MGB c/w ( I think) maroon soft top cover. It rained for most of the race and Minters' cafes did a roaring trade in coffee, however, as hard as I have tried (Google), I cannot find much information on this race (circa 1966?), does anyone have any details? Maybe a scanneg programme/entry list....mine went out when managent deemed the garage was a tad too full of.........magazines!!!!

Sterling 49- I took a look at WSRP site, and I have a candidate, although there is vitually nothing re. results of that particular race there- could it be '66 Boxing Day meeting at Brands (link) on Dec 13th?

Sound like the 500 km race for production sportscars run on 8/5/66, won by Piper/Bondurant in a 7-litre Cobra from the Sutcliffe/Liddell GT40 with the Poole/Enever MGB third

Thanks for the help guys, the link provided has the results.......memory getting better now, seem to remember that Amon and Ireland were pretty quick whilst going......but had forgotten just how many "sports" cars there were entered (Midgets and MGB's). Looked for the book on Amazon, but to no avail, will have to look in specialist book shop. I could not remeber that Tony Flory died in a practice accident either.....now, just what did I come upstairs for?

Maybe the book mentioned is called 'time and two seats' by János Wimpffen.

Fairly sure that date and the one on the WSRP site(30.12.66) is wrong.Boxing Day meet was always 26 or 27th-I was there.Around that time there was also a club meeting in mid-december.

WSPR has full results of the Ilford Films 500 held 8th May which is the race that sterling49 is after. You need to go to British National Races., The Boxing Day Brands (yes 27th not 30th) is wrongly listed in non-championship races, it too should be in British National.

My understanding is that the classicscars "version" has not been updated for several years. The originator, Martin Krejci's current site is http://www.wsrp.wz.cz/ which is mintained and added to on a regular basis, most recently 21st august, and it has much information not on classicscars. For example, British National Races on classicscars only goes up to 1951 whereas on wspr it is pretty comprehensive up to 1957 (when 226 races are listed) and has quite a bit on subsequent years.

wsrp is a very good site and more comprehensive than classicscars. However, I sometimes have a problem with whole screens loading in it, so use the classicscars "abridged" version if I am short of time.
